Chelsea registered a vital 1-0 home win over Champions League candidates, Liverpool, on the weekend which has kept their hopes of attaining a top four finish very much alive as they now trail fourth placed Tottenham by just two points.
After what has largely been a disappointing campaign for Chelsea by their standards so far, The Blues now appear to be coming home with a wet sail as they’ve picked up four wins on the trot with recent wins over Southampton, Burnley, Swansea City and Liverpool, and they’ll fancy their chances of making it five on the trot when Huddersfield Town visit Stamford Bridge on Wednesday night.
A win for Chelsea would see them move level on points with third placed Liverpool, and with a fairly solid home record of 11-3-4 29/15 which includes just two defeats from their last 14 on home turf, they look set to take the spoils here. In addition, Chelsea have kept 10 clean sheets in their 18 home matches to date.
Huddersfield Town are still not yet out of the woods yet with the threat of relegation still a possibility as they make their way down to the nation’s capital on the back of just one league win from their last eight matches overall, which was a 1-0 home win over Watford in mid-April.
The visitors will take heart from gaining a point in a 0-0 draw away at Premier League title holders, Manchester City though on the weekend, which would have been a massive and most timely boost in The Terriers’ bid to avoid relegation in their debut season in the Premier League, and they’ll be hoping they can achieve a similar result in London here.
However, Huddersfield Town possess the third worst goalscoring record away from home in the top flight within an overall record of 3-4-11 11/32 which includes failing to score in 13 of their 18 away matches to date.
