Chelsea Prediction – Can Chelsea get going?

The early warning signs are there for Chelsea – Sunday afternoon’s hosts have failed to win any of their last 3 matches in all competitions as they prepare for their first home match of this new Premier League season against a resurgent Leicester City.

A 2-2 draw with Borussia Moenchengladbach in their last pre-season friendly was followed by back-to-back defeats to Manchester United and Liverpool; a heavy 4-0 loss at Old Trafford against Manchester United on the opening day of the season was then swiftly followed to defeat to Liverpool in the UEFA Super Cup.

Chelsea manager, Frank Lampard, has never managed in the top flight before and indeed spent just one season in the Championship as he served his ‘apprenticeship’ with Derby County, and the departure of their best player by a country mile, Eden Hazard (Real Madrid), has left a massive hole which Chelsea haven’t yet filled.

In addition, although forward Tammy Abrahams was a prolific goalscorer in the Championship with Bristol City and Aston Villa (scoring a total of 49 goals), he’s only scored 5 goals from 34 appearances in the Premier League.

Leicester City Prediction – Can Leicester City extend unbeaten run?

The visitors took a share of the points in last week’s opening match of the new Premier League season when they drew 0-0 at home with Wolves, but nevertheless, that result extended Leicester City’s unbeaten run to 8 matches without defeat in all competitions.

The final match of last season’s Premier League campaign ended in a 0-0 draw at home with this Sunday’s opponents, Chelsea, at their King Power Stadium, and The Foxes then went on to enjoy a successful pre-season period.

Leicester City won 5 of their 6 pre-season friendlies with wins over Scunthorpe United, Cheltenham Town, Cambridge United, Stoke City and Serie A outfit, Atalanta. Some would argue that despite Leicester City’s resurgence under boss, Brendan Rodgers, the Foxes continue to struggle away from home.

Whilst this may have been true under former manager, Claude Puel (Leicester lost by 2 goals or more on 3 occasions), the visitors have yet to lose by a 2+ goal margin on the road under Rodgers in the Premier League.

Indeed, they’ve collected wins at Burnley and Huddersfield Town and only lost by 1-goal margins at Watford 2-1 and 1-0 at title holders, Manchester City.

Key-Facts – Chelsea v Leicester City

  • Chelsea haven’t won any of their last 3 matches in all competitions
  • Leicester City are unbeaten in their last 8 matches in all competitions
  • Leicester City haven’t lost by 2+ goals away from home in last 5 away matches

Betting Tips Verdict

Chelsea look off-colour at the moment and will need the likes of Pedro to step up while Leicester City have tightened up considerably under Rodgers and stand a decent chance of at least a point here.
