Chelsea Prediction – Can Chelsea convince at home?

Back-to-back wins against Brighton 2-0 and a 4-1 hammering of Southampton away from home was the perfect way for Chelsea and Frank Lampard to sign off for the recent international break, and the hosts will be looking to pick up where they left off this Saturday afternoon when they play host to Newcastle United at Stamford Bridge.

After their shaky start to the new season where Chelsea were handed a heavy 4-0 defeat away at Manchester United, Chelsea have steadied the ship somewhat as they’ve suffered just 1 further defeat out of their subsequent 7 matches which was a 2-1 loss at home to title-chasing Liverpool.

Strangely enough though, 3 of Chelsea’s 4 league wins to date have been achieved on their travels where they’ve recorded wins at Norwich City, Wolves and Southampton, while their one success at home to date was a 2-0 victory over 14th placed Brighton.

Indeed, Chelsea’s record at home stands at a tentative looking 1-2-1 6/5 and although the hosts will be eyeing off all three points in this upcoming fixture against Newcastle, this may not be the easy win that many are predicting.

Newcastle United Prediction – Can Newcastle resume with a win?

The international break probably came at the worst possible moment for Steve Bruce and his Newcastle United side as they ended a miserable run of 4 league matches without a win in the Premier League when they recorded a much-needed 1-0 home win against Bruce’s old employers, Manchester United.

Recent defeats to Liverpool 3-1 and a heavy (and embarrassing) 5-0 loss to Leicester City were both away from home but would have done nothing to endear Bruce to the already grumbling and increasingly restless Newcastle faithful.

Bruce wasn’t the most popular choice to replace former boss, Rafa Benitez, in the first place and having registered just 2 wins so far this season, his Newcastle side have some way to go to make up for this – but a positive result at Chelsea would certainly help.

The early signs aren’t good though as Newcastle have lost 3 of their 4 away matches to date amidst an overall record of 1-0-3 3/11 which included a surprise 1-0 win at Tottenham but also defeats at Norwich City, Liverpool and Leicester City.

Key-Facts – Chelsea v Newcastle Utd

  • 3 of Chelsea’s 4 wins this season have been registered away from home
  • Chelsea have won by 3+ goals in just 3 of their last 20 home matches
  • Newcastle have lost by 3+ goals just twice out of their last 36 away matches

Betting Tips Verdict

A Chelsea win looks very much on the cards here but Newcastle look a good bet to avoid a heavy defeat, hence the handicap option on them.
