Chelsea – Blues on a high from FA Cup?

As Arsenal were doing Arsenal like things over the weekend, Chelsea were busy doing theirs. The Blues safely through to a second final of this season and fourth of the Tuchel era, one that has already yielded Champions League and World Club Cup titles. It was the perfect response to last week’s heartache in the former competition, which Chelsea exited but only after a brave display in Spain against Real Madrid.

People forget Chelsea did win away to Real Madrid, despite it feeling like a loss after losing 5-4 on aggregate. Sunday’s FA Cup semi-final victory over Crystal Palace, strolling to a 2-0 scoreline at Wembley, meant a third successive win in all competitions for a side boasting nine wins in eleven matches since losing the EFL Cup final to Liverpool on penalties at the end of February. The Blues on course to finish 2021-22 with a flourish.

Key Stat: It is just three wins across the last nine Premier League home games for Chelsea (W3 D5 L1), who were beaten 4-1 by Brentford in their most recent league encounter at Stamford Bridge.

Arsenal – Misfiring Gunners losing grip on fourth spot?

There have been four instances in the Premier League this season where a team has had 20 or more shots in a game without scoring. All but one belong to Arsenal who were at it again in front of goal on Saturday, beaten 1-0 at St Mary’s by a Southampton team that had been thrashed 6-0 by Chelsea at the same venue a week earlier. Highlighting the difference between a team that is firing and one that evidently isn’t.

Mikel Arteta’s misfiring Gunners have now lost three games on the bounce, after losing only two of their previous thirteen in the league (W10 D1). This slump has cost them control of fourth place. Now three points behind Spurs who have played a game more than an Arsenal side without key players (Kieran Tierney, Thomas Partey and Tomiyasu) ahead of a crucial run of games against Chelsea, Man Utd and West Ham.

Key Stat: Arsenal have already visited three of the teams that finished in the top four places last term, losing all three match-ups by a combined score of 2-12 (4-0 vs Liverpool, 3-2 Man Utd, 5-0 Man City).

Chelsea Vs Arsenal Betting Advice

Across their last five away league games, Arsenal created just four scoring opportunities deemed a ‘Big Chance’. That being a shot with a 33% or more likelihood of being converted into a goal. Their recent struggles in front of goal are of little wonder then. The Gunners scoring no more than once in four of those matches, beaten to nil the last twice by teams 12th and 13th respectively (Southampton and Crystal Palace).

Chelsea Vs Arsenal – Key Facts:

  • After three consecutive head-to-head victories for Arsenal, including a 1-0 win at Stamford Bridge in the league last season, Chelsea stopped the rut when recording an easy 2-0 win at The Emirates in their first league meeting of 2021-22.
  • Both teams scored in all five league and cup meetings between the sides prior to those above mentioned scorelines. However, there has only been one draw across the last seven meetings in the league.
  • Chelsea have been drawing at half-time in each of the last four home league games, with all of their last four goals at Stamford Bridge scored in the second half.

Four of the seven Chelsea home wins this season were ‘to nil’, so the prospect of a third away loss to nil for Arsenal is seemingly high. However, standards have noticeably dropped among the Chelsea defence of late. Their chastening 4-1 loss last time out here to Brentford representing a seventh home league game in nine without a clean sheet, in which they won only three of these contests (D5 L1).
