Chelsea – Thriving under new management?

Even though he has inherited a supremely talented squad, the turnaround at Chelsea (W13 D8 L6) under Thomas Tuchel has been impressive nonetheless. Thursday’s 1-0 victory over champions Liverpool – their first win at Anfield in the league against the Reds in more than six years – made it five wins, three draws and only two goals conceded in the eight league games the former PSG manager has taken charge of.

For context, predecessor Frank Lampard registered just seven points from his final eight top-flight fixtures, while only runaway leaders Man City (24) have picked up more points since the German took over on 27 January than the Blues (18). That is the company they are keeping now, with many now tipping them to go on and catch second-place Man Utd, who are now only four points better off and in stuttering form of late.

At Stamford Bridge, Tuchel has yet to oversee a loss thus far. In fact, his team are yet to even concede on home soil, with goalless encounters against Wolves and Man Utd sandwiching 2-0 wins over Burnley and Newcastle. Extend that unbeaten home run to five on Sunday, against the team directly below them who haven’t won here since November 1994, and Chelsea will have consolidated their hold on fourth spot.

Everton – Brazilian spearheading top-four pursuit?

Few Premier League seasons have thrown up as many surprises and curveballs as this one, but perhaps the biggest takeaways has been the level of consistency Everton (W14 D4 L8) are producing on their travels. Only leaders Man City are averaging more points-per-game on the road so far, while only once before, in 2008-09, have they ever managed more than their current tally of nine away victories in a single season.

All this augurs well for their chances of securing a positive outcome from Monday’s otherwise daunting assignment. Their opponents remain unbeaten since a change of manager, and will be high on confidence following Thursday’s 1-0 win over faltering Liverpool at Anfield, where Everton’s current three-match winning run begun with an outstanding performance in their 2-0 victory in the Merseyside derby.

Since clinching local bragging rights, Everton have recorded back-to-back 1-0 successes – the first of those at home to out-of-sorts Southampton before edging out a lowly but nonetheless spirited West Brom at The Hawthorns on Thursday. Richarlison netted the opening goal in all three and has scored in each of his last four league starts, becoming the first Brazilian player to in four straight Premier League games.

Chelsea Vs Everton Betting Advice

At odds just shy of evens (20/23 with Betfair), Under 2.5 Goals holds plenty of appear. In the eight Premier League games Thomas Tuchel has been at the Chelsea helm, his team have conceded only twice – one of them a Rudiger own goal – and are still to lose (W6 D2). Meanwhile, Everton arrive at Stamford Bridge having won each of their previous three league matches without conceding.

Chelsea Vs Everton – Key Facts:

  • Two of the Premier League’s in-form sides meet with Chelsea unbeaten in eight (W6 D2) and Everton winning all of the last three.
  • Since assuming the reins in West London, Chelsea have conceded two goals in eight league games under Thomas Tuchel. Everton have kept three successive clean sheets.
  • The last time Everton celebrated victory at Stamford Bridge in the league was November 1994 – the Toffees without an away win in 23 subsequent visits (D10 L13).li>

I’m surprised Chelsea are as short as they are and will take them on accordingly. Their form so far has been solid but unspectacular, relying on a rock-solid backline and their dominance of possession to grind out results. Everton will be more than happy to sit back and soak up any pressure, while they always carry a significant threat through the in-form Richarlison or leading scorer Calvert-Lewin.
