Preview: Saturday marks the 140th FA Cup final and will be the first to feature both Chelsea and Leicester. The Blues boast ample experience of this stage, with this their fifteenth final having lifted the trophy eight times, whereas Leicester would be first time winners should they emerge victorious at Wembley from their fifth final appearance.

FA Cup Final Betting at Betfair

Chelsea – Blues eyeing ninth FA Cup success?

Route to Final – 4-0 Morecambe (h), 3-1 Luton (h), 1-0 Barnsley (a), 2-0 Sheffield United (h), 1-0 Man City

The first of two finals in two weeks for Chelsea who could sign out for the season with both the FA Cup and Champions League. It would cap a memorable five months under the transformative Thomas Tuchel – who will become the first German coach to lead a team out in the final of this competition – whose team ensured a fourth final appearance in five seasons for the club, conceding a measly one goal along the way.

In last season’s showpiece, the Blues were beaten 2-1 by Arsenal. The Gunners coming from behind to get the better of Frank Lampard’s men. Tuchel’s version is made of sterner stuff, though. Chelsea have shipped three goals across their previous eight matches in all competitions, while only West Brom breached this extremely resolute and well-drilled backline more than once during his 26-game tenure.

Momentum can be critical though. Chelsea surrendered some of theirs in midweek, losing 1-0 at home to Arsenal. Previously unbeaten in seven (W5 D2), Tuchel cited his many changes as a factor behind the loss – and below par collective display – but can now call upon key players such as goalkeeper Edouard Mendy, defender Antonio Rudiger and striker Timo Werner. All three rested with this final in mind.

Kelechi Iheanacho To Score

Leicester City – Rodgers out to end Foxes final hoodoo?

Route to Final – 4-0 Stoke (a), 3-1 Brentford (a), 1-0 Brighton (h), 3-1 Man Utd (h), 1-0 Southampton

During his time in Scotland with Celtic, Brendan Rodgers sampled five cup finals, winning them all. On Saturday, the Northern Irishman will oversee his first major final in England (excluding the 2010/11 Championship Play-Off Final with Swansea) as he seeks to become the first ever Leicester manager to lift the FA Cup trophy – despite this being the club’s fifth appearance in the final of the competition.

The Foxes arguably faced the more taxing route to the final of the two teams, dispatching three sides from the top-flight including an accomplished performance in the last-eight in a 3-1 defeat of Manchester United. No player has more goals in this season’s tournament, meanwhile, than Leicester frontman Kelechi Iheanacho. The Nigerian taking his tally to four with the only goal of the semi-final.

Since pipping Southampton to the final, Rodgers’ men have won three of five subsequent matches (D1 L1). They produced an admirable response to losing 4-2 at home to Newcastle recently, capitalising on an under-strength Man Utd at Old Trafford in midweek to claim a 2-1 victory. A more polished display is required, however, if they are to claim a first piece of silverware since the 2000 League Cup.

Chelsea Vs Leicester Betting Advice

These sides are scheduled to meet in the league next week, where Leicester could complete a rare league double after winning 2-0 at King Power Stadium earlier in the season. That was when Chelsea were still under the guidance of Frank Lampard, though, and this truly feels like a different side – more polished, better balanced and, unquestionably, more reliable defensively.

Chelsea Vs Leicester City – Key Facts:

  • With a 2-0 win at home in the pair’s only meeting of this season thus far, Leicester made it one loss in their last eight competitive meetings with Chelsea (W2 D5).
  • Chelsea, with one goal conceded in the tournament this season, are looking to avoid becoming the first team since Newcastle, in 1999, to lose consecutive FA Cup finals.
  • Leicester are looking to capture their first FA Cup, in what is their fifth appearance in the final. Kelechi Iheanacho is the leading scorer in the tournament with four goals.

The head-to-head record is intriguing, with Leicester losing only one of the past eight meetings in all competitions (W2 D5). The Foxes also boast goals in them, netting two or more in four of their last five matches (W3 D1 L1). This includes Tuesday’s vital victory over Man Utd. Both teams scored in four of those, a scenario which occurred only twice in the last nine games for Chelsea (W5 D2 L2), conceding one goal en route to the final.

I’ll back the underdogs rising to the occasion, something they have done regularly when facing Chelsea in recent times.
