Chelsea Preview – Can Chelsea get off to a good start?
Chelsea will no doubt be kicking themselves after letting a 2-0 lead slip at home against Southampton in the Premier League on Saturday as they were eventually held to a 3-3 draw at Stamford Bridge after seemingly looking likely to collect the three points with a 3-2 lead.
However, Saints grabbed a late, late equaliser to steal a point in the nation’s capital but the hosts will be fully focused as they switch their attentions onto the European front as they hold home advantage against their Spanish opponents, Sevilla, in the opening match in Group E.
Chelsea have lost just two of their last seven matches overall in the Champions League which were both against Bayern Munich but wins over Lille (twice) and Ajax show they’re a threat. At home, The Blues have lost just three of their last 16 home ties which gives them a chance of at least picking up a point here, if not all three.
Sevilla Preview – Can Sevilla catch Chelsea cold?
Sevilla will make their way to London for this Group E opener against Chelsea on the back of a disappointing 1-0 defeat away from home at Granada in La Liga on the weekend and the Spanish outfit hit the road again on Tuesday night.
The visitors picked up early back-to-back wins in the Spanish top flight with victories over Cadiz and Levante and earned a point in a 1-1 draw away at Barcelona too, but to then lose at Granada following those results will have been extremely disappointing.
In addition, Sevilla have managed to win just three of their last 11 matches overall in the Champions League with two of these three being achieved on home turf at their Estadio Ramón Sánchez while it’s just three victories out of their last 16 matches on their travels at Champions League level.
