Chelsea headed into the international break on the back of a resounding 4-0 home win against Crystal Palace which was a welcome win for The Blues as they’d previously suffered a 2-0 defeat at home to Liverpool and a frustrating but entertaining 3-3 draw away from home at West Brom.
Saturday’s hosts had started their new Premier League campaign with a useful 3-1 win away from home at Brighton and although Frank Lampard’s side earned just one point from their next two matches they’ll be keen to record back-to-back wins in the top flight when they play host to Southampton on Saturday.
It’s been an impressive recent run of results at Stamford Bridge for Chelsea too as the hosts have racked up seven wins from their last eight matches in the Premier League which includes notable wins over Tottenham, Everton, Manchester City and Wolves, while Chelsea have also won eight of the previous 10 encounters against Southampton.
Southampton Preview – Can Southampton win three on trot?
After making a disappointing start to their new Premier League campaign, Saturday’s visitors, Southampton, have subsequently made an impressive recovery as the south coast club have bounced back by recording back-to-back wins in the top flight.
The Saints were handed back-to-back defeats at the start of this new season by Crystal Palace 1-0 away and a heavy 5-2 defeat by Tottenham down on the south coast at their St Mary’s Stadium but subsequent wins over Burnley 1-0 away and a 2-0 home win against newcomers, West Brom, have set Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side back on track.
However, Southampton’s record against Chelsea isn’t a good one and although they’ve lost just one of their last seven matches on their travels, they’ll more than likely have their work cut out at Stamford Bridge against Chelsea in this clash.
