Onto the Serie A in Italy next, and it’s the final day of the Italian domestic season this weekend and my next pick features the last match in the top flight for Benevento who were already relegated a few weeks ago.
Chievo will be Benevento’s last hosts of this season at the Stadio Marc’Antonio Bentegodi in Verona with the hosts looking to post a third consecutive Serie A win on the trot to end their season off in style.
Chievo have previously registered back-to-back wins over Crotone and Bologna, while on home turf they’ve lost just once in their last six which was a 2-1 loss to Inter Milan, but they’ve also picked up wins over Cagliari, Sampdoria and Crotone during this period, amidst an overall home record of 6-6-6 21/24. Look out for forward Inglese (11 goals) who is Chievo’s leading goalscorer this season.
Benevento make their last trip in Serie A this evening in what has been an extremely difficult first ever campaign in the Italian top flight for the visitors, who have collected just six league wins so far this season.
With five of these six wins being achieved at their Stadio Ciro Vigorito, it would be fair to say that the odds are firmly stacked against them to get anything from this clash in Verona, especially when you consider Benevento’s away record currently stands at a very poor 1-1-16 10/43 which has also resulted in them possessing the worst defensive record away from home in Serie A.
Benevento did somehow record a 1-0 win at AC Milan recently which has been their only clean sheet on the road to date this term, but then reverted back to normality with a 2-0 defeat at struggling SPAL.
There should only be one winner here…
