Club Brugge will be keen to extend their lead at the top of the Belgian Jupiler League on Saturday night when they play host to fifth placed Racing Genk when the two teams meet at the Jan Breydelstadion.
Brugge currently hold a commanding 11 point lead over second placed Sporting Charleroi ahead of this weekend’s action, and they head into this encounter on the back of just one defeat from their last 14 league matches in the Belgian top flight.
The hosts also hold a very strong home record which stands at 12-1-0 40/13 where they’ve certainly exerted their authority over the majority of their opposition in the division, with only second placed Sporting Charleroi denying them defeat last time out on home turf in a 3-3 draw. Club Brugge possess a very potent attacking department with goals coming from various sources.
Onto Racing Genk, and they’ve enjoyed a pretty steady season so far in the Jupiler League as they sit in fifth spot although they find themselves six points adrift of Gent in fourth place ahead of their difficult looking trip to Brugge.
Genk seem to have recovered from an earlier wobble which saw the visitors go five league matches without a win throughout the end of November up until Christmas, but they’ve since bounced back with just one further defeat from their subsequent six matches.
Form away from home has also improved as they’ve won their last three away trips on the trot at Oostende, Lokeren and Royal Mouscron, but it should be noted that all three of these wins were against bottom half opposition, within an overall away record of 6-4-3 21/17.
Club Brugge have been excellent at home this season, and I’m expecting this trend to continue here today.
