Second placed Cologne will swap places with current league leaders Hamburg at the top of the 2 Bundesliga if they take all three points in their home match with Bochum on Friday night. After a temporary wobble of four matches without a win which saw Cologne suffer defeats to MSV Duisburg and Hamburg, the hosts have bounced back in style.
Cologne come into this encounter having won their last five matches on the trot with convincing wins over Dynamo Dresden 8-1, Darmstadt 3-0, Greuther Furth 4-0, Jahn Regensburg 3-1 and Magdeburg 3-0.
This has resulted in the hosts scoring a total of 21 goals and conceding just 2 in reply as they seek a swift return to the German top flight, while their home record stands at 5-2-2 26/12 which includes winning their last three on the trot.
Unsurprisingly, they’re the division’s highest goalscorers by some margin and with midfielder Drexler (4 goals) along with forwards Cordoba (7 goals) and the prolific Terodde (21 goals), they look set for the spoils on Friday night.

Bochum have dropped down to 8th place in the 2.Bundesliga having lost back-to-back matches against St Pauli 3-1 and a 2-0 defeat away at Union Berlin, so a trip to free-scoring Cologne probably isn’t top of their list of places they want to visit right now.
The visitors have registered six league wins to date this season but five of them have been achieved at their Vonovia Ruhrstadion while an away record of 1-5-2 10/11 suggests they’d be happy to take a point in Cologne.
Bochum’s one away win so far this season was a 2-0 win at MSV Duisburg, but they’ve since slumped to seven matches without further success on their travels which includes no fewer than five draws within this sequence.
