Following back-to-back defeats away from home in recent weeks, Columbus Crew will no doubt be relieved to be heading home for their Saturday evening clash with Orlando City at the MAPFRE Stadium in Ohio with the hosts looking to get their season back on track.
Although Columbus still occupy a top six spot, lying in fourth place and candidates for a Finals Series play-off place, the hosts have lost four of their last five matches overall which includes defeats to Atlanta United, Los Angeles FC, LA Galaxy and New York City.
Of course it hasn’t helped with playing some tough fixtures of late, but there could be some much needed light at the end of the tunnel for The Crew as they possess a reasonable home record of 6-3-2 21/15 with just one loss from their last eight matches on home soil. Striker, Zardes (11 goals) is their danger man up front.
Orlando City finally put an end to a disastrous nine-match losing streak last time out when they recorded a 2-1 home win over Toronto FC which helped lift Orlando away from the bottom two positions in the Eastern Conference.
It had been an alarming slump in form and results for James O’Conner’s side who had also lost their last six on the trot on their travels too, and this encounter will confirm if Orlando have indeed turned a corner, or if they’ll revert back to their old ways, as they look to improve upon a poor away record of 2-0-7 8/24.
However, since recording back-to-back away wins earlier in the season at Philadelphia Union and Colorado Rapids, they’ve endured a spate of losses on the road and they face a Columbus Crew outfit who are also keen to get back on track.
