Corinthians Preview – Can Corinthians pick up a second home win of the campaign?
The previous campaign was a frustrating one for Corinthians who finished in eighth place and who will have to go through qualification to make this season’s Copa Libertadores. That will be one of the objectives for Tiago Nunes who took over the head coaches role in December 2019. It’s been a decent enough start to this campaign but they know that if they are to be challenging at the top end of the table, these are games they need to be winning.
Nunes and his players will be buoyed by their last two games where Corinthians have picked up four points following a win away to Goias and then a draw at home to Botafogo. There are definitely some positives for Corinthians to bring with them from last season, not least a very good defensive record which was amongst the best in the league. It’s not been as resolute so far this season, however, conceding 10 in just seven matches.

Had it not been for the formidable Flamengo who cruised to the Serie A title last season, Palmeiras would have had a lost out on the Championship by virtue of winning one less game than second placed Santos. It’s indication of a very positive campaign but at the same time, knowing they have to build on that if they are to be successful come the end of this season.

The Palmeiras squad has a blend of experienced players alongside some very promising youngsters. The likes of Ramires, Luiz Adriano and Felipe Melo have all enjoyed fruitful spells in Europe and are not only contributing but helping develop the potential of some of their team-mates. Midfielder Gabirel Menino is one of those and he’s started all seven league games so far.
