Partick can take a big step towards the League One title and promotion to the Championship when travelling north to face Cove Rangers who would go a point behind the leaders with a win.

Cove Rangers Preview – Can Cove get the win that would keep them in the title race?

Having been promoted to League One for the first time last season there’s no doubt Cove have had a successful campaign regardless what happens in the remaining three matches. Paul Hartley’s team are in third and four behind their next opponents but can still earn what would be a third successive promotion.

With doubts over the playoffs in the Scottish lower leagues that may mean finishing top is their only possible way of doing that but a win on Tuesday definitely gives them that chance.

Cove drew with the other team involved in the title battle, Falkirk, on Saturday – a game which they were winning with just five minutes left only to concede late on. That, along with losing to Montrose the game prior, is proving to be the difference between them sitting third rather than first. They travel to Montrose against this weekend before ending the season with a home match against Airdrie.

Striker Mitch Megginson is the league’s top scorer and his goal at the weekend took his tally to 12 in the league so far. It’s a great return in a shortened season for a player competing at this level for the first time in his career. If Cove are to get the points they need in the remaining matches then him and his goals will be pivotal.

Partick Thistle Preview – Will the Jags continue their excellent run and take another step back towards the Championship?

The turnaround in Partick’s season has been remarkable since League One resumed in March. Pressure was on Ian McCall as his team looked to be well out the race for the title and potentially looking at another year in the third tier of Scottish football. Now, with three games of the season left to play, Thistle are top with a four point lead.

It’s been the perfect combination for McCall and his players who have won their last five whilst at the same time, their title rivals have continued to drop points on a regular basis.

Saturday’s 1-0 win at home to Airdrie was secured by a goal from veteran striker Brian Graham who is now one short of 10 goals in the league. It’s a win which sums Partick’s resurgence up as they have become much more defensively sound. It was their fifth clean sheet in a row which – when you contrast it to what went before – is a huge improvement.

Thistle will complete their fixtures with a home match against Falkirk before travelling to Montrose and they know two more wins will absolutely guarantee their place in next season’s Championship. Which, if you consider how they were relegated last season, would appear to be just.

Cove Rangers vs Partick Thistle Betting Advice

It’s a huge game for both teams but it’s Cove who absolutely need to win if they are to finish top of League One and win automatic promotion. Thistle will be going all out for it as well but they do have a cushion now and know no matter what happens here they’ll still be top with two games left.

McCall’s team is yet to beat Cove in the league this season, however, losing one and drawing the other.

Key Facts – Cove Rangets vs Partick Thistle Betting Tip

  • Cove have won their last four at home in the league without conceding a goal
  • Partick have pulled four points clear at the top of League One having won their last five
  • It was 1-0 to Cove when the teams met here earlier in the season

Momentum is often overused in football but there’s no doubt that Thistle are on a roll just now and come here in better form. As such, I’m taking them to get another three points.
