Coventry City Preview – Can the Sky Blues extend their unbeaten run?

Coventry have adjusted smoothly to yet another now ‘home’ ground this season. Again evicted from the Ricoh Arena, the Sky Blues are now based at Birmingham City’s St Andrews but have picked up 28 points from their 13 games in the league, which is among the best in the division.

City have only lost once in eight games in all competitions and are currently fourth in League 1. They have only failed to score in one match since the beginning of November but had to twice come from behind in the first game between these sides at the Memorial Stadium.

Mark Robins’ side have been leaking goals, however. They’ve managed just one clean sheet in league and cup since they won 2-0 at League 2 Colchester United in the first round of the FA Cup so goalkeeper Marko Marosi will be looking for more help from his defenders.

Matt Godden usually plays as the lone striker ahead of a five-man midfield and is City’s top scorer this season with nine goals. In three of their last four matches, Coventry have scored the first goal inside the first 10 minutes.

Bristol Rovers Preview – Can the Gas end their goal drought?

The wheels have fallen off the away team since Ben Garner took over the managerial reins following the sudden departure of Graham Coughlan. Garner, recruited from Indian football, is without a win in six matches in charge and his team have lost four of those games and dropped out of the play-off places in League 1.

Particularly worrying has been the lack of goals. Top scorer Jonson Clarke-Harris is getting little support and has looked a forlorn figure since Garner took over the hot seat. His team have not scored in open play since Coughlan left for Mansfield.

The Gas are definitely missing Abu Agogo and new signing Josh Barrett is not available for this replay so it will be up to Liam Sercombe and Ed Upson to provide the ammunition for Clarke-Harris to end his goal drought.

Bristol Rovers have not managed to score a single goal in their last three visits to Coventry City and lost 2-0 in the league in August.

Trends – Coventry City vs Bristol Rovers Betting Tip

  • Coventry are unbeaten in five matches and have not lost at home since October
  • Bristol Rovers have not win in seven matches and have failed to score in four of their last five

It’s difficult to see anything but a home win in this tie given the respective form of the teams. Coventry should have beaten MK Dons but Bristol Rovers rarely looked like scoring against Doncaster on Saturday and are suffering from a terrible lack of confidence in front of goal at present. Coventry/Coventry in the Half Time/Full Time is 8/5 with 888sport.
