Cowdenbeath Preview – Can Cowdenbeath get a second league win of the season in League Two?

Gary Bollan is one of the longer serving managers in Scotland these days as he approaches his fourth year in charge of Cowdenbeath. All of them have been spent in League Two and this season looks to be another where the main objective is to remain in the division rather than anything more ambitious. A 3-1 defeat at home to Annan Athletic on Saturdays sees them sitting in seventh place with four points after as many games.

Cowdenbeath’s only win in the league so far is a 3-1 win at home to Elgin whilst they have drawn with Stenhousemuir and suffered an opening day defeat to early leaders Kelty Hearts. Bollan will feel that this match is the perfect opportunity to get another win on the board and push themselves away from their opponents at the bottom of the table.

Our betting prediction
Stranraer
(odds taken 2000 GMT, Monday 23 August)

The slow start to the new league season comes on the back of a positive showing in the group stages of the League Cup. Cowdenbeath picked up six points from their four matches including a win over League One Alloa. That, along with a 1-0 win over Fraserburgh, are the only two clean sheets Bollan’s men have had this season.

The veteran Liam Buchanan moved to Cowdenbeath this summer and has already scored three goals including two in the league. Buchanan was playing in the Championship for the past two seasons.

Stranraer Preview – Could Stranraer land their first three points of the campaign?

The player-manager role is not as prevalent these days as it once was but Jamie Hamill is attempting to combine both. Having been at the club as a player since 2017, Hamill took on the management responsibility in the summer and he’s found life tough going. Stranraer sit bottom of League Two and are in search of their first three points of the season.

They’ve taken two points from four matches with draws against Elgin City and Forfar – the former of those coming on Saturday. The concern for Hamill will be the two home defeats against Annan and Stirling Albion, both of which were by three nil score lines.

Stranraer finished their own League Cup group stage with six points having been awarded a win against Greenock Morton whilst beating East Kilbride 1-0. They went down to Clyde and Kilmarnock by the odd goal so were competitive in games against teams from higher leagues.

The Links Park club also have their own veteran striker in the shape of Darryl Duffy. This is his second season with Stranraer having scored five goals in the previous campaign. He got his first goal of this season in the draw with Forfar and will be looking to build on that starting in this match

Cowdenbeath vs Stranraer Betting Advice

Stranraer were unbeaten in the meetings last season taking four points from two games. They’ve also lost just one of their last seven against this opponent.
