Despite returning to their Broadfield Stadium for tonight’s FA Cup 1st round replay, hosts Crawley Town face an uphill task when they entertain League One side, Southend United as the betting tips continue this evening.
Crawley Town stumbled to a fourth defeat in five matches on Saturday afternoon when they suffered a 1-0 defeat away at Grimsby Town in League Two which followed previous losses to Tranmere Rovers, MK Dons and Gillingham, but they did hold tonight’s opponents Southend to a 1-1 draw at Roots Hall.
The hosts have produced mixed results in recent weeks on home turf as the Red Devils have recorded wins over Cambridge United and Newport County but have also been on the end of losses to Portsmouth and MK Dons – the latter being a 4-0 drubbing.
Southend United also suffered defeat on the weekend when they lost 2-1 at home to a resurgent Blackpool outfit, and although they missed the opportunity of progressing through to the 2nd round of the FA Cup at the first time of asking at Roots Hall, Southend will still be confident they can get the job done at Crawley tonight.
Southend have registered recent away wins at Burton Albion and Gillingham but then suffered back-to-back defeats in two very difficult assignments on the trot at Sunderland and Barnsley respectively.
The visitors have a chance of revenge over Barnsley as they’ve been drawn at home against The Tykes in the 2nd round of the cup should they go through this evening, but there’s plenty of incentive for The Shrimpers to do well here, and they possess in-form strike pair Hopper (7 goals) and Cox (6 goals) in their armoury.
