Crawley Town will need to get something from Wednesday night’s clash with high-flying Wycombe Wanderers if they’re to stand a chance of making the play-offs when the two teams meet at the Checkatrade.com Stadium in West Sussex.
At the beginning of the new year, Harry Kewell’s men went on a winning spree in League Two which saw the West Sussex outfit win seven of their eight matches, and there was speculation that perhaps the Red Devils could be one of the dark horses in the division to grab a top seven place come the end of the season.
However, the bubble has somewhat burst since, as Crawley have managed just one league win from their last five matches overall, which was a 3-1 win over play-off candidates, Lincoln City. Defeats at Luton Town and Forest Green Rovers have hindered their play-off ambitions, but they’re unbeaten in their last six at home with a record of 8-3-7 22/17, winning five of these.
Wycombe Wanderers kept their hopes of an automatic promotion spot in League Two well and truly alive when they secured all three points in Saturday’s 2-0 win away at bottom club, Barnet, which has moved them level on points with third placed Notts County, with only goal difference separating the two teams.
Three points at Crawley Town tonight would see The Chairboys leapfrog Notts County into third place, but this may well be easier said than done as Wycombe have stuttered in recent weeks following defeats to Morecambe and Coventry City, both at Adams Park.
However, away matches seem to present no problem for Wycombe who have won five of their last six on their travels with wins at Forest Green Rovers, Crewe Alexandra, Luton Town, Cheltenham Town and Barnet.
