EFL League One leaders Hull City are on the road this Friday as they take on Crewe Alexandra at Gresty Road. The Alex still have slim play-off hopes, so David Artell’s troops will be tough opponents for the leaders. Still, Grant McCann’s men will fancy their chances of picking up all three points in Cheshire. We have the latest betting odds and tips in our in-depth Crewe vs Hull preview.

Crewe Alexandra Preview – Can the Railwaymen upset the leaders?

David Artell’s Crewe Alexandra were promoted as EFL League Two runners-up last term. To be fair to the Railwaymen, they have been very competitive on their League One return, racking up a more than respectable 51 points so far.

After 36 games played, Crewe have claimed 14 wins, suffered 13 defeats and drawn nine times. They are currently in 14th, seven points away from the play-offs and 15 points clear of the drop zone. Another season in League One looms for the Cheshire club.

Our betting prediction:
Mallik Wilks to score first
9/2

Alex head into this one in decent nick, winning two of their last three in League One. Last time out, Crewe beat Northampton Town on the road, with Owen Dale getting the only goal of the game. Can they upset the leaders on Friday?

Hull City Preview – Tigers to move closer to the Championship with a win?

Hull City fell out of the EFL Championship with a whimper last season. However, Grant McCann’s men have recovered well, spending the majority of the campaign in League One’s top two. The Tigers lead the way with 70 points, although they have played more games than the chasing pack.

Hull have drawn their last two, but the club from the East Riding of Yorkshire are unbeaten in seven. Before back-to-back draws with Shrewsbury Town and Gillingham, City secured successive wins over Wimbledon, Rochdale, Bristol Rovers, Peterborough United and Oxford United, conceding just one goal along the way.

Hull are one the best away teams in the division, with only Sunderland and Lincoln City picking up more away points up until now. Can the Tigers take another big step towards promotion back to the Championship with three points at Gresty Road?

Crewe Alexandra vs Hull City Betting Advice

Hull have already beaten Crewe twice this season. In the reverse League One fixture back in September, a late Mallik Wilks goal gave City a 1-0 victory. In the EFL Trophy in December, Hull beat Crewe on penalties after a goalless draw in normal time. This will be the first meeting at Gresty Road since an EFL Cup game back in August 2007, which Hull won 3-0.

Key Facts – Crewe Alexandra vs Hull City Betting Tip

  • Crewe’s last win over Hull was a 5-1 FA Cup triumph way back in December ’96
  • The Railwaymen have lost just one home game since November
  • Hull are unbeaten in seven league matches, winning five and drawing two

Artell’s Crewe have not been an easy nut to crack on their own patch this season. Before a 3-0 reverse to Burton Albion in their last home match, Alex had won seven and drew four of 11 League One home games.

Still, Hull head to Cheshire in fine fettle, and we fancy the Tigers to return home with a massive three points. Back the away win at 5/4.

This could be another close encounter between the pair, so check out the tempting odds of 3/1 for the Tigers to win by one goal.
