Welcome to my World Cup 2018 betting tips, and Sunday evening’s instalment of the last 16 sees Croatia taking on Denmark at the Nizhny Novgorod Stadium with Croatia’s momentum slowly building.
Croatia emerged as group winners ahead of runners-up, Argentina, in Group D as they won all three of their group matches and maintained a 100% winning record as they head into the knock-out stages of this World Cup.
Croatia started their campaign in solid fashion when they saw off Nigeria in a 2-0 win, which was then followed up with a convincing 3-0 dismantling of Argentina who looked all at sea and could only get Lionel Messi into the game in sporadic bursts, but was largely ineffective.
The Croatians finished the job off with a 2-1 win over Iceland to hand them an unassailable nine-point haul in the group as they duly beat a poor and unconvincing Argentina to top spot in Group D. The attacking midfield of Perisic, Rakitic and Modric are essential to Croatia’s style of play and they’ll be instrumental in their success again this evening.
Onto Denmark, and the Danes finished as runners-up to group winners, France in Group C but still remained undefeated throughout the group stages with a 1-0 win over Peru, followed by a disappointing draw with Australia 1-1, but guaranteed their place in the last 16 with a 0-0 draw with France in the last group match.
The Danes rely quite heavily on the likes of Sisto and in particular, Tottenham’s Christian Eriksen, for the creative spark in the Danish set-up, with most of Denmark’s attacking play being channeled through Eriksen, so expect Eriksen to be closely monitored by the likes of either Badelj or Kovacic in Croatia’s defensive midfield.
Nevertheless, Denmark are unbeaten in their last seven matches in all competitions which will give them hope of progressing to the last eight this evening, but my betting tips suggest that Croatia could just edge them out here.
