In the other match in Group A, CSKA Moscow take on Basel at their VEB Arena with a valuable three points up for grabs in what looks like being a tight affair in Russia on match day three of the Champions League on Wednesday night.
CSKA’s impressive five match winning streak in the Champions League came to an abrupt end last time out at home to Manchester United as the Russian giants were felled by the Premier league outfit 4-1 on their home turf, but the hosts have a chance to redeem themselves there this evening.
The signs are suggesting a positive outcome for CSKA tonight as they’re unbeaten in their last two at home in the Russian Premier League, along with securing back-to-back wins in the Champions League over AEK Athens and Young Boys prior to the defeat to Manchester United.
Visitors Basel sit level on three points with their hosts, CSKA Moscow, ahead of their trip to Russia this evening having lost 3-0 away at Old Trafford, but then bounced back with an emphatic 5-0 thrashing of Portuguese outfit, Benfica at home on match day two.
Prior to that win over Benfica though, Basel had gone nine matches without a win in this competition, and they’ll be facing a tough test in Moscow this evening no doubt as the hosts look to seek an advantage in order to claim second place in the group.
In addition, Basel have managed just one win from their last 12 away matches in the Champions League, so tonight could be a tall order for the Swiss outfit.
