Czech Republic – Can Czech Republic make a good start at home?

Czech Republic sit bottom of Group A with no points to their name after just 1 match of these group stages but it’s still early days in this qualifying stage and the hosts will no doubt be looking to open their account on home turf on Friday night.

The hosts started their Euro 2020 qualifiers in disastrous fashion as they were handed a 5-0 thrashing by group favourites, England, at Wembley Stadium, but they return to home soil for Friday night’s clash with Bulgaria, and although they were beaten 3-1 by Brazil in a recent friendly, the hosts will be looking to start with a clean slate here.

Recent wins for Czech Republic include victories against San Marino 5-0 in the World Cup qualifiers along with a Nations League 1-0 home win over Slovakia, and with forwards Schick (Roma) and Vydra (Burnley) up front, Czech Republic will be reasonably confident of turning things around on Friday night.

In addition, Czech Republic have previous history on their side against Bulgaria as they’re unbeaten in their last 5 encounters, winning 4 of these 5 previous tussles.

Bulgaria Prediction – Can Bulgaria hold onto 2nd place?

Bulgaria currently occupy 2nd place behind Group A leaders, England, thanks to opening their campaign with back-to-back draws with Montenegro and Kosovo both in 1-1 stalemates, and although they’re unbeaten in their last 4 matches overall, all of these were draws and they’re without a win from their last 5 matches overall in all competitions.

Prior to the start of these Euro 2020 qualifiers, Bulgaria had also been held to stalemates by Cyprus and Slovenia, again in 1-1 draws, in the Nations League, and they’d also suffered a 1-0 loss away at Norway in the same competition as well.

Bulgaria have also struggled away from home too as they’ve posted just 1 win out of their last 11 matches on their travels which was a 2-1 win at Slovenia, but this poor sequence includes 7 defeats which shows their possible vulnerability on the road.

Most worrying was a spate of heavy defeats a couple of seasons ago when they lost 7-2 at Japan, 4-0 at Denmark, 4-1 at France, 3-0 at Sweden and a 3-1 loss at Netherlands.
