Daegu entertain Pohang Steelers at the B Daegu Bank Park this Saturday in their first home match of the K League season.
Daegu FC Preview – Patience could be key for Sky Blues
Daegu will probably regard a draw at Incheon United last week as two points dropped.
The Sky Blues will be wary of second-season syndrome having exceeded expectations last year in their first season back in the top flight but they should be a force to be reckoned with again on home turf.
The Brazilian Cesinha was arguably the best midfielder in the K League last season and Daegu have done well to fight off suitors for his signature. Lee Byunggeun’s team will need to fight a suitable long-term replacement for Korean international goalkeeper Jo Hyeonwoo, however.
Lee Jinhyun could start for Daegu against his former club and there are high hopes for Hwang Taehyun this year but the signing of veteran Montenegro forward Dejan Damjanovic seems a strange move given he is not the player he was and cut little ice at Suwon Bluewings.
Pohang Steelers Preview – Will last week’s victory prove a false dawn?
Pohang Steelers have achieved back-to-back fourth-place finishes in the K League and, under talented young manager Kim Ki-dong, are fancied to contest for major honours this season.
The Steelers look to have a found a ready-made replacement for Brazilian Wanderson in the shape of Manuel Palcious and Aleksandar Palocevic, on the score-sheet from the penalty spot last week, is sure to score plenty of goals against this season.
But they didn’t need to be at their best to complete a routine victory over newly-promoted Busan IPark in their first match and will not be relishing the short trip to Daegu, against whom they have a poor recent record.

Predictions and Tips
It’s difficult to take a definitive view this early in the campaign and this will be a big test for new Daegu keeper Choi Youngeun but he has a solid defence in front of him and his team are effective on the break
It could be a frustrating afternoon for the Steelers, who may be lulled into a false sense of security after half time with their hosts content to soak up pressure.
