The National League continues on Tuesday night with a full slate of fixtures, and my next pick features early promotion contenders, Dagenham & Redbridge, taking on Ebbsfleet United at their Chigwell Construction Stadium as the hosts look to extend their unbeaten start to the new season.
Back-to-back wins over Barrow 2-1 at home and a 2-1 win away at Boreham Wood was the perfect start to The Daggers’ new campaign, while on Saturday they took a point in a 2-2 draw away at Eastleigh.
Dagenham now return to their home surroundings where they’re unbeaten in their last seven league matches, a record that extends back into last season, while they finished last term with a home record of 12-5-6 37/28. Forward Whitely has scored 4 goals in 3 matches to date.
Visitors Ebbsfleet United were just pipped at the post for an automatic promotion place by Maidenhead United in the National League South, but nevertheless, they secured promotion back up to the National League via the play-offs thanks to a 2-1 win over Chelmsford City in the final.
Fleet have made a positive start in their return to the non-league top flight so far as well, having registered a 2-0 home win over Maidstone United which was in between draws with Guiseley and Fylde, 2-2 and 3-3 respectively.
It’s been four seasons since Ebbsfleet were in the non-league top tier, and they’ll need to improve upon their results on the road if they’re to consolidate their National League status this term I feel. They ended their last campaign with 13 matches without a win away from home which included 11 defeats!
