Britain’s Dan Evans is into the second round of the French Open for the first time in his career.

Evans met Francisco Cerdundolo in the first round on Tuesday.

It was a straight-sets victory for Evans, but it was not plain sailing all the way.

Evans took the first set via a tie break and then was 6-4 6-4 in his other two sets.

But nonetheless, t was a good competitive workout for Evans on his birthday.

Can he celebrate further by reaching the third round of action at Roland Garros?

The bookies think that he has a reasonable chance.

Next up for Evans is Mikael Ymer from Sweden on Wednesday which gives the Brit a reasonable chance of progressing.

Evans has never really been a major threat on the clay.

On this current swing, he is W4 L6 for the season.

The only occasion when he won back to back clay matches was at Madrid earlier this month.

Britain’s number two did make the third round at this year’s Australian Open and has been to at least the third round in each of his last three Grand Slam appearances.

Mikael Ymer Preview – Can Ymer progress?

At last year’s French Open, Sweden’s Mikael Ymer reached the third round for the first time.

This is just his fourth appearance in the main draw.

The 23-year-old didn’t arrive at Roland Garros with any kind of current positive form on the clay.

He was on a five-match losing streak on the surface before the opening round.

In the French Open first round on Tuesday, Ymer beat Australia’s James Duckworth in straight sets.

Ymer was comfortable throughout the fixture.

In the match outright for Wednesday, Ymer, who is ranked just inside the top 100, is the 7/4 underdog in tennis betting* (odds recorded 04:18 GMT on May 24th, 2022 at William Hill).

The clear issue for him is that he is really inexperienced in higher-level tournaments.

He faces a top 32 player in the first of Dan Evans.

Mikael Ymer has been across the net from Dan Evans before as they met in the summer of 2019.

That was at Nottingham on the grass, with Evans claiming a 2-1 win.

Given Evans has a Roland Garros record that is far less than enviable, the Evans 3-1 set betting tip could be interesting at 10/3* (odds recorded 04:18 GMT on May 24th, 2022 at William Hill).

At least year’s Australian Open, Ymer made the third round in a slam for the first time.

He beat Hubert Hurcakz and Carlos Alacarez in some big upsets along the way.

Dan Evans vs Mikael Ymer Betting Advice

Dan Evans has to be feeling a sense of relief at having landed that maiden French Open win.

We think he can take that momentum through and reach the third round.

The Evans 3-1 set betting pick is our first French Open tip at 10/3* (odds recorded 04:18 GMT on May 24th, 2022 at William Hill).

Key Facts – Dan Evans vs Mikael Ymer Betting Tip

  • Dan Evans is into the second round for the first time
  • Dan Evans beat Mikael Ymer in their one previous meeting
  • Mikael Ymer has lost five of his last six clay court matches

The slower clay is not the best surface for Evans, and so it’s not unreasonable that he could let a set go.

Ymer is still on the up in the game and he enjoyed himself by winning a couple of matches at last year’s French Open.

His current form doesn’t appear to be there, however, to win this.

We may push for Over 36.6 games at 11/10* (odds recorded 04:18 GMT on May 24th, 2022 at William Hill).
