Can Collins live it up in the round of sixteen?

To be fair, a run to the quarter-finals of the Brisbane International last week, wasn’t a bad start from Danielle Collins. When you look at how she tore apart the challenge of fourth seed Elina Svitolina in the first round, dropping just two sets, it was very good actually. She bowed out in the quarters against Madison Keys.

Collins had a famous run at the Australian Open last year, reaching the semi-finals. Her biggest victory there was against three-time major champion Angelique Keber in the fourth round before eventually falling to Petra Kvitova in the quarters.

The 26-year-old had only just had her big breakthrough on the WTA in the previous year, which was the last and only time she won a WTA title. She has dropped four places in the rankings from where she was a year ago.

But she looked right on her game in the first couple of rounds of Brisbane. Collins was back on it against in beating Aliaksandra Sasnovich in the first round of Adelaide over the weekend as well.

Kenin can challenge

America’s Sofia Kenin made it past Anastasija Sevastova in the first round of the Brisbane International last weekend. Then after taking the first set on a tie break against Naomi Osaka, couldn’t do enough to sustain her levels and bowed out in that round of sixteen match.

A short rest and on to Adelaide, she claimed her easy win over Sasnovich. Kenin is ranked 7th in Adelaide and is the favourite for this all-American clash. She is ranked up in 15th in the world and is in a very good spot in her career at the moment.

Danielle Collins v Sofia Kenin Prediction and tip

Collins has to be the pick in this one, despite being an underdog. There is value in her as the even money pick*(betting odds was taken from bet365 on January 13th, 2020 at 8:07 pm).

So far this year, Collins has a higher service games win percentage than Kenin and has won a staggering 50% of return games. Kenin edges the service game, but Collins may win it on the groundstrokes.
