We are at the semi-final stage of the Australian Open tennis and we have a big showdown between Daniil Medvedev and Stefanos Tsitsipas.

It is Russia’s Medvedev who is running as the strong odds-on favourite to make it through to the final.

But the confidence of Tsitsipas will be high after getting the better of Rafa Nadal in the quarter-finals.

Daniil Medvedev Preview – Medvedev to trump over Tsitsipas again?

Daniil Medvedev has reached the semifinals of the Australian Open for the first time in his career.

He is now the odds-on favourite at 2/5 to win this semi-final match against rival Stefanos Tsitsipas* (odds taken 23:03 GMT Wednesday, 17th February).

There is no love lost between the two players, so now in the high-pressure area of a Grand Slam semi-final, what is coming our way?

Medvedev has had a fairly comfortable run through to the final four at Melbourne Park.

The Russian has won four of his five matches without having dropped a set.

The only tight squeeze that he had was in the third round when he was taken to a deciding set by Filip Krajinoivc after having been 2-0 up.

Medvedev is the reigning ATP Finals champion and is on the brink of the second Grand Slam final appearance of his career.

His first ended in a defeat to Rafa Nadal at the 2019 US Open.

Not having been past the fourth round of the Australian Open before, this is more major progress for Medvedev.

Our betting prediction:
Medvedev 6-4 1st Set Score

The Russian carries a strong head to head record against Tsitsipas as well.

It is a W5 L1 record in the head to head that Medvedev holds, which is pretty dominant.

Medvedev won all of the first five meetings before Tsitsipas finally managed to get a win on the board.

That was in their most recent meeting at the 2019 ATP Finals with Tsitsipas going on to lift the title after that round-robin clash.

There has been a previous Grand Slam meeting between the two of them. Medvedev took a 3-1 win at the 2018 US Open round of 64.

For tennis betting in this semi-final fixture, a Medvedev 3-1 option is at 7/4* (odds taken 23:03 GMT Wednesday, 17th February).

Stefanos Tsitsipas Preview – Can Greek star defy the odds?

This is the second semi-final appearance at the Australian Open for Greek star Stefanos Tsitsipas.

He had his big career breakthrough in 2019 when he hit the final four of the tournament.

This is only his fourth appearance in the main draw of the Australian Open.

In his quarter-final, was paired up against second-seed Rafael Nadal and Tsitsipas looked down and out at 2-0 down.

But after sneaking a tie-breaker in the third set, the Greek player managed to pull off a major shock by turning the tables on the Spaniard.

He managed to outlast the great Spaniard, perhaps helped out by having had a walkover in the fourth round when his scheduled opponent Matteo Berrettini withdrew.

Will he be able to shrug that off and reach his first Grand Slam final?

In the match outright for Australian Open tennis betting, the win for Stefanos Tsitsipas is a quote of 2/1* (odds taken 23:03 GMT Wednesday, 17th February).

A gruelling five-set duel against Rafa Nadal is not the best preparation to go to a semifinal with.

That is twice in his four completed matches at this year’s Australian Open that Tsitsipas has been taken to five sets.

With Medvedev breezing through his semi-final, you have to think that could have an effect the longer this semi-final goes on.

But that was a tremendous show of resilience from Tsitsipas in his quarter-final match.

A Tsitsipas +1.5 handicap ta 19/20 for tennis betting shows the big task ahead of him in this match* (odds taken 23:03 GMT Wednesday, 17th February).

Daniil Medvedev vs Stefanos Tsitsipas Betting Advice

Medvedev has generally bossed Tsitsipas around in their previous meetings and that head to head record can’t be ignored.

Even in defeat in that 2019 ATP Finals meeting, Medvedev was close and we think that he gets the win.

We would even push things towards the Medvedev 3-0 in set betting at 7/4 for tennis betting* (odds taken 23:03 GMT Wednesday, 17th February).

Key Facts – Daniil Medvedev vs Stefanos Tsitsipas Betting Tip

  • Daniil Medvedev leads the head to head 6-1
  • Daniil Medvedev has dropped a set in just one of his five matches
  • Stefanos Tsitsipas fought back from 2-0 down in the quarters to beat Rafa Nadal

He just smashed his friend Andrei Rublev in his semi-final match and looks sharp and pretty ruthless right now.

Medvedev looks the sharper of the two and we see him getting through.

Tsitsipas deserves huge credit for that epic fight back against Nadal, but that was such a long match mentally and physically, that it may give his opponent an advantage.

We would push towards Under 39.5 in the Total Games market as we think Medvedev sweeps this easily* (odds taken 23:03 GMT Wednesday, 17th February).
