Here it is then. Finally. The rematch between Deontay Wilder and Tyson Fury, both unbeaten in their professional careers. Back in December 2018 the two produced one of the greatest heavyweight spectacles ever seen.

Somehow Tyson Fury picked himself off the deck in the 12th-round to hurt his opponent before the bout ended in a draw. It was a somewhat controversial draw that was awarded with most people ringside expecting the judges to give it to Fury.

How does Wilder v Fury II live up to that?

Bet at Betfred

A fitter and stronger Fury is ready

Tyson Fury was not anywhere near being in peak condition when he stepped into the ring against Deontay Wilder in December 2018. In 12 months prior to the fight, he had shed a massive 10st in weight.

He had only been back in action for six months before taking on WBC heavyweight champion Wilder.

After that famous 2015 win over Wladimir Klitschko, Fury didn’t step into the ring until June 2018 after a mental health battle.

In the 12th round of that first meeting with Wilder, Fury was decked (for the second time in the fight) in a flurry of punching fury from his American opponent. Fury looked as if he was stone cold out.

But then right on the count of ten he got up, goaded his opponent and then struck Wilder with a right hand and left hook that badly hurt the American. Wilder was shaken up. Badly.

It was a final round like no other.

Fury denied a clear win?

Many thought Fury would win the fight on points after having out-boxed Wilder throughout. It was scored a draw, however. To this day it is still a remarkably tough decision to figure out.

But Fury thinks that he will probably never get a points victory in the USA against an American opponent. He believes he needs to stop Wilder. Punters may think otherwise, that his best route to success is simply outboxing the American again.

Our betting prediction:
Fury by Unanimous Decision

Bet at Bet365

(odds taken 22:17 GMT Tuesday 18th February)

Tyson Fury is 4/1 to win this fight by a stoppage* (odds taken 22:17 GMT Tuesday 18th February). Since that duel with Wilder, Fury has had two fights. He blasted past Tom Schwarz in the second round of a June contest last year.

He was then awarded a unanimous decision against Sweden’s Otto Wallin in September. Fury was cut above the eye early in that contest and there was a big danger of it stopping him.

Fury was also hurt badly by Wallin in the final round of that fight, the Brit rocking badly on his feet. It was at the end of the day, a good workout in terms of ring time and fitness for Fury.

Will the power of Wilder prevail?

Nobody in the world of boxing hits like Wilder does. Not in terms of power. The shots with which he put Fury to the canvas in round 12 of their first fight with, you wouldn’t have given anyone else on the circuit a chance of getting up from.

Wilder, aka the Bronze Bomber has been the WBC heavyweight champion since 2015. He has a phenomenal record of 42 career wins and the one draw against Fury. 41 of Wilder’s 42 victories have been by a stoppage. It’s just phenomenal power that he has.

He is not the most technically gifted of boxers, Fury wins that hands down. Fury is better on his feet than Wilder is as well. But Wilder he has shown time and time again, that he generally only needs that one chance, one opening out of nothing and it’s goodnight.

Wilder’s last fight was against Cuba’s Luis Ortiz in November. It wasn’t plain sailing for Wilder, who was rattled by the veteran journeyman.

Wilder was outboxed for most of that bout against a smaller man, but it didn’t matter because in the seventh round he pulled out a knockout punch after being behind on all three of the scorecards.

Another big criticism that has been level at Wilder is his lack of quality opponents. That’s throughout his career and there is weight behind that.

You could even argue that really aside from meeting a three-quarters-fit Tyson Fury in 2018, Wilder in his career really hasn’t fought anyone of note.

Since winning the WBC heavyweight title he really put it on the line against anyone other than Fury who realistically had a chance of taking it off of him.

Deontay Wilder vs Tyson Fury Betting Advice

There is a tough fight to call. Fury is the better boxer, Wilder has the bigger finishing power. In terms of tactics, Fury may want to get on the front foot early with his jab to try and settle Wilder. To grind him down to eliminate some of his threat later in the bout.

Key Facts – Deontay Wilder vs Tyson Fury Betting Tip

  • 41 of Deontay Wilder’s 42 career wins have been by a stoppage
  • Deontay Wilder is the reigning WBC Heavyweight champion
  • Tyson Fury and Wilder drew their bout in December 2018

In the back of punters’ minds will be that power of Wilder. It compensates for a lot and allows him to get away with not even fighting well. Wilder only had a 17% shot accuracy in that first fight with Fury. He barely laid a glove on Ortiz in the first six rounds of their recent contest.

At no point in his career has Wilder faced anyone like Fury, except for, of course, Fury. The Brit wants the stoppage, but this fight may well go the distance again as Fury just can’t go all gung-ho and leave himself exposed.

Fury is stronger and fitter than he was for the first fight. Despite that, twice he was put down and got back up again. With Wilder recently having been totally outboxed by 40-year-old Luis Ortiz, Fury can do the same to him, only hurt him more. Fury by decision.
