Derby County Preview – Can Derby turn a corner?
Three defeats on the trot has put Derby County manager, Philip Cocu, under early pressure to turn his Rams side around but they did manage to record a 1-0 win away from home at Norwich City just before the international break to get them off the mark in the Championship.
Early season defeats to Reading (2-0 at home), Luton Town (2-1 at home) and a heavy 4-0 loss at home to Blackburn Rovers saw Derby County off to a disastrous start to this English second tier campaign, and although they registered that win at Norwich City, that’s now just two wins from Derby’s last 10 matches overall.
Derby prided themselves on their home form last season but the alarm bells are now starting to ring as the hosts have failed to win any of their last five matches at Pride Park, losing four of these and another defeat at home to Watford could see Cocu’s position under real pressure.
Watford Preview – Can Watford bounce back?
Friday night’s visitors, Watford, were handed their first defeat of this new Championship season just before the break as they lost 1-0 away from home at Reading which put an end to The Hornets’ unbeaten start to this new season.
Watford had started the new second tier campaign in solid fashion as they’d registered wins against Middlesbrough and Luton Town, both by 1-0 margins and both on home turf at Vicarage Road, while also picking up a point in a 0-0 draw away at Sheffield Wednesday.
Although they lost last time out, Watford will be encouraged by the fact that they’ve kept three clean sheets in their first four matches of this new season and will fancy their chances of heaping further problems upon Derby County on Friday night.
