Derry City Preview – Can Derry find their first home win of the season?
It took Derry until their seventh match of the season before they registered their first victory but they are beginning to find some good form now after a very worrying start. The Candy Stripes lost their first four and drew their following two before that all-important win away to Sligo Rovers. The fact they got their first win against a team currently leading the division has clearly given them a much-needed confidence boost.
Finn Harps are the only team to have beaten them in their last 10 games now – a period where they have won four and drawn five. That sees Derry sitting in eighth at the moment but 10 points clear of Longford who are directly below them. Derry’s sights are very much set firmly on catching teams above them.
Despite the recent improvement, Derry continue to search for their first home win of the season. They’ve drawn four and lost three so far in this campaign so will be determined to get that monkey of their back as soon as possible as they bid to get closer to the top three which brings with it European football.
It’s no coincidence that the uptick in form has come at the time of appointing Ruaidhri Higgins as head coach. Part of the Republic of Ireland set-up and assistant to Stephen Kenny at Dundalk, Higgins is a progressive coach and is implementing his ideas with great effect so far.

Bohemians have finished in the top three in their last two seasons (second in 2020 and third in 2019) so the standards have been set which this group of players will be striving to match at least. Long-serving manager Keith Long will be much happier with where his team are now compared to where they were placed earlier in the campaign when wins were hard to come by.
Bohs won just two of their first nine in the Premier Division but have since racked up four wins in five matches and they know that’s the level of consistency required if they are to challenge for the top three again.

Bohemians are currently fifth but due to that slow start they are already 11 points behind Sligo Rovers and it looks like a first title since 2009 may be a stretch too far.
Georgie Kelly is in his first season at the club but he’s had an impressive start with six goals in the league already. He’s the second top scorer in the league and hit a hat-trick against one of his former clubs Dundalk at the end of last month.
