It has been business as usual for Rafael Nadal at the French Open. The Spaniard has marched his way through to the semi finals.

He is the red-hot odds-on favourite to book his spot in the final. That will be against either Novak Djokovic or Stefanos Tsitsipas.

Diego Schwartzman is in the form of his life at the moment having reached the final of the recent Italian Open on clay.

He caused a major upset in the quarters of this tournament as well. He took out Dominic Thiem, can he do it against Nadal?

Diego Schwartzman Preview – Can Schwartzman raise his game again?

Argentine Diego Schwartzman is having the time of his life at the moment. He reached the final of the ATP Masters 1000 Rome.

He missed out there in the final against Novak Djokovic. But notably along the way, he had gotten the better of Rafa Nadal in the quarter-finals.

That was a shock straight-sets victory that Schwartzman took in that match as well, fully against the odds.

Schwartzman is the 5/1 underdog for this contest* (odds taken 04:35 GMT, Thursday 8th October).

His recent victory over Nadal was the first-ever success that the Argentinean has managed to take against Nadal.

It moved him on to a W1 L9 record against Rafael Nadal.

This would be something special if he took out Nadal now at Roland Garros.

It has been a solid campaign from Schwartzman to get to this stage of proceedings.

He didn’t drop a set in his first four fixtures at the Grand Slam.

That set him up for a quarter-final against Dominic Thiem.

Our betting prediction:

The newly crowned US Open champion Dominic Thiem was the strong favourite for that one, but it was Schwartzman who prevailed in a 3-2 win.

So that was another major name claimed for Schwartzman in these last two tournaments. But that match against Thiem was long.

Three of the sets went to a tie break situation, so Schwartzman spent a lot of time on the court.

That could be an issue for this one against Nadal

In French Open tennis betting a Schwartzman +7.5 handicap is at 4/5* (odds taken 04:35 GMT, Thursday 8th October).

Rafael Nadal Preview – Nadal set for another French Open Final?

There were some question marks over Rafael Nadal coming into the French Open 2020.

The record 12-time French Open winner didn’t play at the recent US Open and he was dumped out in the quarter-finals of Rome by Schwartzman.

The other factor was about the delayed time of the year that the tournament was starting. The autumn conditions on the clay not being their usual sharpest for Nadal’s game.

But here he is, in the hunt for his fourth straight French Open title. He has looked as imperious as ever in the French capital.

Nadal has not dropped a set in the run to the semi-final and he has breezed through a major part of this tournament.

Granted this will be his first match in his season’s campaign against a seeded player, but he is the heavy odds-on favourite for this one.

A Nadal -7.5 handicap is at 20/21* (odds taken 04:35 GMT, Thursday 8th October).

Rafael Nadal was on that big nine-match winning streak against Schwartzman before getting upset against the Argentine in Rome.

But that is the kind of thing that Nadal will learn from and adapt his tactics ahead of this grand slam match.

It’s hard to see him being taken out over five sets, because that is a massively long time if it comes to it, for Schwartzman to hang on.

Especially as he just had that big five-setter against Thiem.

But he might be worth backing to sneak a set and a Nadal 3-1 option in set betting is at 5/2* (odds taken 04:35 GMT, Thursday 8th October).

Diego Schwartzman vs Rafael Nadal Betting Advice

What an intriguing match this is going to be, especially with Schartzman having toppled Nadal in Rome recently.

We think it is worth having a look at Schwartzman picking up a set in this contest though, because he is playing out of his skin at the moment.

We don’t see him outlasting Nadal at the French Open though, certainly not after what he went through against Thiem.

Key Facts – Diego Schwartzman vs Rafael Nadal Betting Tip

  • Diego Schwartzman is W1 L9 against Nadal
  • Diego Schwartzman beat Nadal in big Rome upset recently
  • Rafael Nadal has not dropped a set at the 2020 French Open

So the Nadal 3-1 set betting option has to take some preference in this one, because we expect the Spaniard to prevail.

So that will be our punt at 5/2 * (odds taken 04:35 GMT, Thursday 8th October).

He has had an easy run, and he fended off an extremely spirited effort by Jannik Sinner in the first set of their quarter-final match.

With a W 9 L1 record against Schwartzman we just don’t see how Nadal loses this on the big stage.
