Borussia Dortmund – Haaland losing patience with erratic team-mates?

The Bundesliga’s runners-up from the past two seasons have it all to do to even make the top-four this time around. A 2-2 draw away to struggling FC Koln before the international break left Dortmund (W13 D4 L9) four points off fourth-place Frankfurt, the side they welcome to Signal Iduna Park on Saturday looking to record a tenth successive home victory over the Eagles that would see them eat into that deficit.

The current predicament would have been more acute without the intervention of Erling Haaland, though. The Norwegian sensation recently did the unthinkable when failing to add to his international tally against Gibraltar, Turkey and Montenegro during the break, but it was his brace that ensured the spoils were shared in Cologne. He cut a disconsolate figure as he trudged off upon the hearing the full-time whistle.

Haaland now has eight two-goal hauls across this Bundesliga season – no player in the club’s history has nine in a single campaign – and his third in his last five appearances. Meanwhile, Dortmund should enjoy Saturday’s return to home comforts. BVB are unbeaten on their own patch in six league games (W4 D2), plundering 13 goals in all, since sustaining that 5-1 humbling at the hands of Stuttgart in December.

Frankfurt – Hutter cofnident of halting Dortmund wos?

Following the high of beating Bayern Munich 2-1 at Commerzbank-Arena on Matchday 22, came the low, as Frankfurt (W12 D11 L3) failed to win any of three subsequent matches in the immediate aftermath of stunning the record Bundesliga champions. A 2-1 loss in Bremen preceding back-to-back 1-1 draws at home to Stuttgart and away to RB Leipzig. Fortunately, they rediscovered their groove prior to the break.

Frankfurt made sure they entered the international hiatus on a high, though, putting five goals past a Union Berlin side whose defensive prowess this term is second only to that of high-flying Wolfsburg. That loss was by far and away the Berliners heaviest of the season, inflicted by Adi Hutter’s ruthless charges. Following up a performance of that ilk is going to be difficult in more ways than one.

First and foremost, the Eagles possess a miserable record away to Dortmund, losing their past nine visits since tasting victory in February 2010. In addition, Adi Hutter is without a win as manager versus BVB in five attempts (D3 L2). In leading scorer Andre Silva, however, Saturday’s guests boast a striker in record-breaking form (21 goals in 24 BL apps this term) in the midst of the club’s best-ever season to date.

Borussia Dortmund Vs Frankfurt Betting Advice

History tells us Borussia Dortmund thrive in this fixture, with the hosts recording victories in all of the previous nine Signal Iduna Park Bundesliga meetings. Frankfurt are creating their own history this season though, with their 47 points accrued from 26 games their best ever return at this stage. And with Robert Lewandowski out injured, expect Erling Haaland and Andre Silva (21 goals apiece) to be extra motivated.

Borussia Dortmund Vs Frankfurt – Key Facts:

  • At Signal Iduna Park on Saturday, fourth-placed Frankfurt will be determined to avoid a tenth consecutive away defeat to Borussia Dortmund, currently four points worse off in fifth.
  • Dortmund are six home Bundesliga games without defeat (W4 D2), scoring two or more in five. Erling Haaland has six goals in his last five league appearances.
  • Frankfurt are winless in two away from home (D1 L1) but have recorded just one defeat in their past fifteen Bundesliga games (W10 D4). Andre Silva is on 21 goals for the season.

This season, Frankfurt have tended to falter on their travels up against the league’s elite. Adi Hutter’s men were thrashed at Bayern, edged out by Wolfsburg, and fought back to claim a point against RB Leipzig. They’ve improved as the season has worn on, though, with one loss from the last fifteen matchdays (W10 D4 L1). Dortmund remain erratic meanwhile, and have the distraction of Tuesday’s trip to Seville to face Man City.
