Luxembourg outfit, F91 Dudelange, return to their Stade Jos Nosbaum on Wednesday night for this all-important second leg of this second qualifying round tie in the Champions League against Cypriot side, APOEL Nicosia.
Last week’s 1-0 loss in the first leg of this tie ended a run of eight straight wins for tonight’s hosts in all competitions, so they’ll be hoping they can bounce back with a win tonight, and perhaps earn their passage into the third qualifying round.
But Dudelange’s previous results and history in the Champions League is not an impressive one as they’ve failed to win any of their last eight ties, which includes six defeats. You have to go all the way back to 2012 for their last success which was a 1-0 win over Salzburg.
APOEL Nicosia come into this encounter in impressive form as they’ve racked up four wins on the trot although three of these have been in pre-season friendlies; wins over Spartaks Jurmala, Panionios and Doxa set them up nicely for their 1-0 first leg win at home against Dudelange last week.
The Cypriot side though possess a much better pedigree at this level than their hosts, and last season’s wins over The New Saints and in particular, Rosenborg, have proven they are serious contenders for the group stages of this competition.
Look out for forward de Camargo and midfielder Efrem for potential anytime goalscorer opportunities for the visitors who should surely get the job done and dusted this evening despite being away from home.
