Dundee United Preview – Can United get revenge over Queens and move nine points clear at the top?

Since the humiliating 4-0 defeat to this opponent a month ago, Dundee United have put together four straight wins and are now six points clear of second placed Ayr. It’s been exactly the response that Robbie Neilson would have been looking for from his players and they can stretch that further with a win over Queens at home on Saturday. With the teams directly below them not in action it’s a great opportunity for the leaders but they will have to do so without their star striker Lawrence Shankland who is on international duty with Scotland. Having scored 17 of his team’s 30 goals in the Championship this season it will be interesting to see how they get on without him.

United could barely be in better form coming into this game and they will almost certainly be looking to avenge that defeat last month. The derby win away to rivals Dundee has set them up perfectly to do just that and they are attempting to maintain their 100% record at home in the league having won their previous six. Their record at Tannadice is an enviable one having scored 27 and conceded only four. To put that in context, the next highest scorers in the league at home are Greenock Morton on 13 goals.

Queen of the South Preview – Will Queen of the South repeat their excellent win move to within a point of the playoffs?

They may have been responsible for arguably the performance of the season and most certainly the biggest surprise but inconsistencies continue to blight Queen of the South. The Doonhamers are in seventh spot and even with another big win over Dundee United they would still be outside the playoffs zone, albeit only by a point. That will frustrate manager Allan Johnston whose team have show just how capable they are with that four goal success over the leaders and last weekend’s 3-1 win at home to second place Ayr. In between those games is where their fragility have been shown. A draw away to Alloa and back to back 2-0 defeats against Inverness and Dunfermilne seen them lose ground on the top four.

One of the biggest improvements Queens will have to make is improving their away from. Their best results have come at home this season which is following a pattern of recent years. In their six away games Queen of the South have managed only one victory and lost three. The three goals they have scored on their travels is also the joint lowest in the league and something that will be of concern to Johnston.

Key-Facts – Dundee United vs Queen of the South

  • Dundee United have recovered well since losing to Queen of the South and have reestablished a healthy lead
  • Queen of the South have a habit of defeating the top Championship teams at home and must now replicate this
  • Star striker Lawrence Shankland will be missing for Dundee United this weekend as he’s on international duty with Scotland

Dundee United vs Queen of the South Betting Advice

Anything other than a Dundee United win tomorrow would be a surprise but the absence of Shankland just adds a little more doubt to that. Queen of the South will be hoping to make the most of that absence but know that if they are to get anything they will have to replicate the level of performance in that 4-0 win. Unfortunately, none of their away performances so far suggest that is likely.

The incentive for the hosts is there and taking a nine point lead – even if the would have played a game more. Neilson will be stressing to his team the danger of this opponent but United are in great form. Their last three home games, and four in total, have all be won without conceding a goal. Dundee United to win to nil (against a team who struggle for goals on the road and have failed to score in four of their six on the road) is the best bet in this encounter.
