Mid-table in the Championship means attempting to push for the playoffs and avoiding being dragged into a relegation battle. That applies to both Dunfermilne and Dundee when the two clash on Friday evening.

Dunfermilne Preview – Can Dunfermilne get back to winning ways and end a dreadful run of five straight defeats?

Stevie Crawford may only have been in charge for a year this month and a club legend at Dunfermilne but he will know his time is running out as manager. The Pars have lost five straight games. And in a league where there is little between half-a-dozen teams, that means they are edging closer and closer to the bottom of the table. Dunfermilne come into Friday’s game only three points above the relegation playoff spot and a further four clear of bottom placed Alloa.

The optimistic support will point to the fact that they are still fifth in the table and a win against Dundee would move them to within a point of that opponent and the final promotion playoff position.

An undoubted success of Dunfermilne’s season has been striker Kevin Nisbit’s contribution. In his first season at the club he has scored 16 in the league alone since stepping up from League One. Unfortunately, for Crawford, that is more than half his team goals.

It’s an issue he will have to hope improves otherwise it’s difficult to see that sole contribution being enough to keep them from dropping further down the table.

Dundee Preview – Will Dundee put a disappointing start to 2020 behind them and take a firm grip of fourth spot?

There was disappointment for Dundee at the weekend as the Dens Park club crashed out the Scottish Cup in pretty tame fashion. A 3-0 defeat at home to Motherwell means that they will solely be concentrating on trying to bounce back to the Premiership at the first time of asking. It was the most recent of a list if disappointments so far this season for Jim McPake’s team.

Relegation last season coupled with a less than impressive first half of this campaign means there is a real apathy surrounding the club at the moment. That’s something which McPake has to look to change and the only way of doing that is putting together a run of results which puts them firmly in playoff contention.

The inconsistency which has plagued Dundee is down to a combination of things. A lot of new players arrived in the summer, it is McPake’s first full season in charge and there is a definite adjustment period for teams coming down from the Premiership to this level.

Dundee sit in fourth with a four point lead over Dunfermilne and a couple of points adrift of Ayr United. A win on Friday would give them a decent cushion of their opponents and they also have a game in hand.

Dunfermilne vs Dundee Betting Advice

Pressure is undoubtedly growing on Crawford and his players which will likely make this a very anxious game for the home team. Lose and it’s hard to see how the status quo continues. For Dundee they will be looking for better than they have managed so far in 2020. Two home defeats (one each in the league and Scottish Cup) without scoring a goal is hardly the start they were wanting.

Key Facts – Dunfermilne vs Dundee Betting Tip

  • Dunfermilne have dropped out the top four having lost five straight Championship games
  • Dundee are yet to score a goal in 2020 having lost their first two games by an aggregate score of 5-0
  • These teams have played out a 2-2 draw whilst Dundee won 4-3 at home last time out, already this season

The form of both these teams means this could be a nervy match despite having shared 11 goals in the two meetings this season so far. Dunfermilne have been decent at home up until two poor defeats but confidence will be rock bottom at the moment. Dundee are picking up on their travels and it’s now only one defeat in six away games. They may just have enough to get all three points and go clear in fourth.
