Dynamo Kiev Preview – Can Dynamo get a win that could see them kick start what has been a disappointing season to date?

It was more frustration and disappointment for Dynamo Kiev as they exited the Champions League qualification for a third straight season. A narrow defeat to Club Brugge ended their hopes of playing in that competition and consigned them to participating in the Europa League. Despite taking the lead three times at home to the Belgians, they were undone 4-3 on aggregate. It is one poor result for the Ukranians in what has been a season littered with them. Having long been the dominant force in their domestic league, Dynamo find themselves in sixth spot with just eight points after six games. It means they are already 13 points behind Shakhtar Donetsk who have a 100% record. All concerned with Dynamo will be hoping that the Europa League can spark a resurgence in form and bring them their first win since the beginning of August.

Playing in the Europa League will not be too disconcerting for Dynamo who have made the best of it in two of the last three seasons. The club have reached the knockout phase in each of the last two years, reaching the last 16 on both occasions. A similar performance will be expected once again in a section that looks one of the most favourable on paper. Oleksiy Mykhaylychenko, who only took over last month, will certainly be hoping that’s the case.

Malmo Preview – Are Swedish outfit capable of getting a result and heaping more misery on their hosts?

Whilst the majority of European leagues are only just beginning, the Swedish league is entering it’s final stages and Malmo are gearing up for what is going to be a very close battle for the championship. Just three points separate the top three, of which Malmo are sitting in the bronze position at the moment. It’s been a frustrating spell of form for Uwe Rosler’s men, though, who have have won just three of their last eight league games and have surrendered top spot as a result. Looking at it more positively and those three wins have come in their last four games, including their last two. Rosler will hope that his side’s upsurge in form continues.

One of the reasons why Malmo have struggled for consistency domestically has been have to manage their qualification for the Europa League group stage. The Swedish club have had to negotiate all four qualifying rounds but were rarely troubled. Their biggest challenge came against Domzale in the second round, getting through 5-4 on aggregate. Now that they have gotten to the group stage, the challenge will be repeating their feats from last season. Malmo made it through to the knockout stage which was a great achievement.

Key-Facts – Dynamo Kiev v Malmo

  • Dynamo Kiev have endured a terrible start to their season, both domestically and in Europe, and now find themselves under the care of a new coach
  • Malmo are involved in an extremely tight battle for their domestic title and seem to be coming into some better form
  • Lugano and Copenhagen will also be competing for qualification from this group

Dynamo Kiev v Malmo Betting Advice

These two clubs both made it through to the knockout phase last season and that will be their intention again. To do that, Dynamo and Malmo will have to overcome Lugano and Copenhagen, the latter of which will be an interesting Scandinavian derby for Malmo.

There’s no doubt that Dynamo are going through a transitional period for them at the moment and it’s been a difficult start to this season. Their home form in this competition was also patchy and it’s just two wins in their last seven. Malmo have shown they are capable of getting results on their travels in Europe, including a 1-0 win in Besiktas last season.

One thing that these two have in common this season is the number of goals in their games. Malmo’s eight games in the Europa League have seen 21 goals scored. Four of Dynamo’s last six game have had at least three goals in them and that’s the way to go in Kiev tomorrow.
