Participation in the Champions League may not have went as planned for Dynamo but there is still plenty of potential for Mircea Lucescu’s first season in charge of the club to be a very successful one. The veteran coach has guided the Kiev club to top of the domestic league (three points clear of his former team Shakthar Dontesk) and this is an opportunity for them to progress further in European competition.
Lucescu knows what it takes to win the Europa League as well having led Shakthar to glory in 2009. He would love to repeat that feat with his new club but they have to improve their overall performance in Europe to have any chance.
Club Brugge Preview – Are Club Brugge set to extend their winning run to 11 matches in all competitions?
Club Brugge were perhaps the unluckiest third place finisher in this year’s Champions League. Despite being down to 10 men for more than half their final match away to Lazio, and also trailing at the time of the sending off, Brugge were tremendous in the second half and missed a guilt edged chance in added time which was ultimately the difference between them playing in this competition compared to the Champions League.
Philippe Clement’s men have not let that disappointment affect them, however, and they resume European football in excellent form. They lead the Belgian league by 13 points with a game in hand and are into the quarter-finals of the Belgian Cup.

Since the draw in Rome, Club Brugge have played 13 games. They’ve won 12 of them (including their last 10) and lost just once. It’s an impressive run of form and ensures they come into this game in confident mood. Brugge have played at this stage in the previous two seasons but their runs have been ended by Salzburg and Manchester United on those occasions.
Veteran striker Bas Dost joined Brugge at the start of January and he has hit the ground running with six goals in eight games and will be eligible to play his first European match for the club, too.
