Eastleigh Preview – Can Eastleigh build on emphatic start?
Eastleigh made an emphatic start to the new National League season on Saturday when they recorded a 5-1 thrashing away from home at last season’s play-off side, Barnet, and The Spitfires will now be looking to post their first home win of the season when they entertain Torquay United on Tuesday night.
It was a fairly disappointing end to Eastleigh’s season last term as the hosts managed to register just two wins out of their final 12 matches of the season which were victories over Woking and Chorley but also included six defeats as well.
However, although they finished in a lowly 17th place on the National League ladder last term, Eastleigh were a hard team to beat at their Silverlake Stadium with a home record of 6-8-3 22/18 which included a 3-2 win over Torquay United in the previous meeting at home.

Torquay United are another side who started the new National League season in winning fashion as The Gulls registered a 1-0 home win over Stockport County at Plainmoor in Saturday’s opening match of the season but the west country outfit now face a tricky trip along the coast to face Hampshire side, Eastleigh, on Tuesday night.
The visitors claimed just four wins from the final 16 matches of last season (three of these being recorded at home), and included a horrific period between mid-November and Boxing Day which saw Torquay lose seven league matches on the trot.
Unsurprisingly, during this alarming slump in form, Torquay’s results away from home also suffered and culminated in The Gulls winning just one of their last eight matches on their travels in the non-league top flight.
