Ecuador Preview – Can Ecuador bounce back?
Despite losing 2-0 away from home at group leaders, Brazil, in their recent World Cup qualifier, Ecuador have produced a promising and impressive World Cup qualifying campaign to date as the hosts sit in 3rd place after winning three and losing two of their opening five group matches.
Defeats away from home at Argentina and Brazil were perhaps expected but Ecuador have tipped the balance in their favour by recording wins against Uruguay, Bolivia and Colombia, the latter being a 6-1 thrashing of the Colombians which will give Ecuador confidence here.
In the previous qualifying campaign, Ecuador had suffered three defeats on the trot but this time around they’ve won two out of two so far along with scoring a total of 10 goals and they’ve also beaten Peru in each of their last two meetings.

Peru started their World Cup qualifying campaign in reasonable fashion as they gained a point in a 2-2 draw away from home at Paraguay but things have since gone south for the Peruvians following four defeats on the trot.
Losses incurred against Brazil 4-2, Chile 2-0, Argentina 2-0 and Colombia 3-0 (the latter two both being at home), have landed Peru bottom of the group with just one point to their name and they now face a tricky trip to Ecuador on Tuesday afternoon.
Although Peru have lost just one of their last six qualifiers away from home, the bigger picture paints a bleak outlook as the visitors have picked up just three wins out of their last 34 matches on their travels and this record could worsen on Tuesday against Ecuador.
