Eibar and Espanyol find themselves both on one point after three games and occupying positions in the bottom three of La Liga. The three points on offer on Sunday would do wonders for either team as they bid to kick start their respective seasons.

Eibar Preview – Can Eibar make home advantage count and get first win of the season?

For much of last season Eibar were one of the many teams involved in a battle to stave off relegation from La Liga. In the end, they were rather comfortable but the way this season has started for them will be concerning for their long-serving coach Mendilibar. Three games in and Eibar are still searching for their first win of the campaign, taking just a point from a possible nine. There won’t be too much panic just yet, however, considering this is a club who have continually punched above their weight in Spain’s top division. It was always set to be a challenging first stage of the campaign with how their fixtures came out.

Two of Eibar’s first three games were away to newly promoted teams in the shape of Mallorca and Osasuna. Where the games were played were significant as despite coming up from the Segunda, Eibar had to contend with the atmosphere created by supporters taking in their first home games. One point from those games meant it ways always likely to stay at that with a visit to Atletico Madrid to come before the international break. Despite taking a two goal lead they left with nothing, conceding a heartbreaking goal in the last minute. Can their first home game of the season bring them a first win?

Under 2.5 goals

Espanyol Preview – Is Sunday the day Espanyol finally get their first goal and even their first win of the new campaign?

We see it so often with teams who qualify for European competition that they tend to struggle combining their efforts between domestic and European commitments. It’s still very early surmise that will be the case for Espanyol but they would have hoped for a better start to their La Liga season. It’s been a baptism of fire for David Gallego who was appointed permanent coach in the summer. Rubi, who had led them into Europe, has moved to Real Betis so the upheaval was always likely to have an impact. To his credit, Gallego has navigated his way through Europa League qualifying to reach the group stage. He will now be looking for some league points. And goals.

Espanyol are yet to score a goal in La Liga this season. A 2-0 home defeat to Sevilla on the opening weekend was followed by a goalless draw away to Alaves. Worst was to come, however, when losing 3-0 at home to Granada in their latest game. Sunday will be the first game where they are not coming off the back of European action and Gallego will be hoping that sparks a difference.

Key-Facts – Eibar v Espanyol

  • Eibar have played all three games away from home so far and will be hoping they can pick up their first of the season on Sunday
  • Espanyol made it through to the group stages of the Europa League but have not scored a league goal and are searching for their first win
  • The visitors have not won at this ground since 2015, losing three times and drawing once since

Eibar v Espanyol Betting Advice

Neither of these teams will want to remain in the bottom three for any longer than necessary. It would have been a long international break for Eibar and Espanyol in their current positions and after their latest results. The home team were desperately unfortunate when losing to Atletico Madrid, whilst the visitors will be hurting after humiliating home loss to Granada. The two managers would be eyeing up this game as being important and looking for that elusive first league win.

Gallego will not be too despondent on the scoring front considering their efforts in Europe. The longer it goes, however, the more he will be concerned. Eibar have a good record in this fixture winning three of their last four. They have turned in the better performances of the two so far in this campaign and will be looking forward to returning home. It’s that which can make the different and see all three points go to the hosts.
