Eintracht Frankfurt Preview – Are Eintracht set to continue their revival and leapfrog opponents?

Having finished eighth and seventh respectively in the last couple of seasons – in addition to winning the German Cup – expectations have been growing year on year in Frankfurt. Add to that their impressive run to the semi-finals of the Europa League last season and it’s definitely been a really encouraging spell for the club. This season has not quite hit the same heights, though.

The sale of three key forwards last summer has had a significant impact on their performances this term but that’s to be expected. And there are some signs they are hitting a bit of form as the campaign draws to a close

After winning only four of 19 Bundesliga games between November and the end of May, Frankfurt have been victorious in three of their last four matches. That’s put an end to any doubts about their survival and they now sit comfortably in mid-table.

They also have a good opportunity to continue their strong end to the season as they finish away to FC Koln before hosting bottom of the league Paderborn. A top seven finish is likely beyond them but they will want to finish as high as possible and that includes above tomorrow’s opponents.

Schalke Preview – Can Schalke end their dismal run and taste victory for the first time since January?

When football returned in May there was still the outside chance that Schalke could challenge for the top four and qualification for the Champions League. At that same time, it was hard to imagine that David Wagner’s men would miss out on European football altogether but that appears to be the way the season is heading.

Incredibly, Schalke have not won a game since the 17th of January. That was against Borussia Monchengladbach in the first game after the winter break. Since then it’s just been a dismal run of form. Seven defeats in 13 games – failing to score in eight of those games.

That run has all but confirmed Wagner’s future at the club with the former Huddersfield head coach set to depart. That in itself means motivation and the mind-set of the players is going to be questionable in the remaining games.

Schalke will end their season against Freiburg having hosted Wolfsburg in between these two games. All three opponents who are more than capable of inflicting more misery on them.

Eintracht Frankfurt vs Schalke Betting Advice

It seems an awful long time ago since these teams last met when Schalke edged the fixture 1-0 back in December. At that point the future was looking extremely positive for Wagner and his players but they have simply been unable to build on that excellent first half of the campaign.

A win for the home team will lift them into the top half and above their opponents with two games to play. Eintracht’s home record in the league this season is six wins, four draws and five defeats. It’s the epitome of inconsistency. The 55 total goals at home is the joint-third highest in the league as well.

Key Facts – Eintracht Frankfurt vs Schalke Betting Tip

    • Eintracht  appear to be hitting some form after a poor spell – winning three of their last four
    • Schalke are looking for their first win since January, a run of 13 games without victory
    • The visitors have scored only three goals in their last nine Bundesliga away games

Schalke have not won away from home in the league since November with five defeats and four draws since. Even more worrying than that they have scored just three goals in those nine away games.

It’s clearly a season which neither team will look back on fondly but Eintracht are simply in better form just now and they can continue their recent resurgence by taking all three points here.
