Everton are currently enjoying a six-match unbeaten run in the Premier League prior to this afternoon’s meeting with Bournemouth at Goodison Park, and another three points today for Ronald Koeman’s side could see them close the gap on the top six teams.
Everton are in 7th place following recent wins over Leicester City, Koeman’s former side, Southampton, Manchester City and Crystal Palace along with useful points away at Hull City and Stoke City.
The Toffees also hold a solid looking home record which stands at 6-4-1 19/7 where they’ve won three of their last four including a 2-1 win over Arsenal. Striker Lukaku (12 goals) is the obvious threat up front for the hosts.
Visitors Bournemouth suffered an unexpected setback in their last match which was a midweek 2-0 defeat at home to strugglers Crystal Palace, and The Cherries have now gone four Premier League matches without a win ahead of their long trip up north to merseyside for this afternoon’s clash with Everton.
Recent defeats to lowly Hull City and Palace perhaps indicate a bit of nervousness around the south coast club as they now sit in 14th place and are now seven points above the bottom three; another defeat here today could be interesting.
Bournemouth’s away record also hasn’t done them many favours as it stands at 2-2-7 11/22 which includes four defeats from their last five away trips with defeats at Arsenal, Burnley, Chelsea and Hull City, along with keeping just two clean sheets on their travels to date.
Everton are the form side here, and I expect them to take the points at Goodison Park.
