The early serving in the Premier League at Saturday lunchtime is an intriguing clash between fast improving Everton and an ever increasingly desperate Chelsea when the two teams clash at Goodison Park.
Everton come into this encounter on the back of a promising five match unbeaten run where they’ve registered four wins, three of which have been under the watch of new manager, Sam Allardyce, who has started to transform the formerly ailing Toffees into a more confident and hard to beat outfit.
Wins over West Ham, Huddersfield Town, Newcastle United and Swansea City have seen Everton lift themselves into the top half of the division in 9th place, and with an improving home record which now stands at 6-0-3 17/13 as well as a more cohesive unit, they stand a good chance of taking something from this match.
Chelsea sit in third place and three points adrift of Manchester United as they make their way up to merseyside to take on an Everton outfit who they would have expected to beat fairly comfortably a couple of months ago, but the outlook has changed somewhat significantly in recent weeks.
Although Chelsea have registered eight wins from their last ten overall in the Premier League, the recent 1-0 defeat at West Ham and 1-1 draw at Liverpool have left lingering doubts as to whether Antonio Conte’s men can step up another gear or two to catch Manchester City for the title.
An away record of 6-1-2 18/7 including defeats at struggling Crystal Palace and West Ham suggest not, and an away match at Everton looks a far more difficult proposition now with the home side starting to click under Allardyce.
