There may be only three places between Everton and Manchester United in the table but it’s also a gap of 18 points and the visitors know they can ill-afford to drop many more points in their remaining games if they want to finish top four.

Everton Preview

It’s been a curious season for Marco Silva and Everton which, for the most part, has been filled with more disappointments than positives. There have been some signs recently, though, that they are beginning to find their feet and if it’s continued over the remaining games then there is cause for some optimism in what’s to come next season and beyond. Their season could possibly be summed up by the last month where they have looked very good in winning three consecutive games before turning in an absolute howler last week away to Fulham. That run of three wins is just the second time they have won as many games in a row under Silva and they achieved it by beating two of the current top five in Chelsea and Arsenal, without conceding a goal. It’s that level of performance that Everton supporters are looking for more often and would allow them to be challenging for Europe and possibly the top four. As has been pointed out numerous times since, though, it’s pointless winning against the top teams in the league and then failing to follow it up against the teams at the bottom end of the division. Seventh spot is well within their grasp now and will be the aim of Silva and his players for the rest of this season.

Key-Facts – Everton v Manchester United

  • United need to get back to winning ways in their bid to finish in the top four and qualify for the Champions League
  • Everton have defeated both Arsenal and Chelsea in recent weeks and are looking to upset another top four challenger
  • Six of Everton’s last seven home games have went under 2.5 goals whilst four of United’s last six away in the league have done likewise

Manchester United Preview

The initial bounce that Manchester United experienced when Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was appointed towards the end of 2018 has long disappeared and the Old Trafford club now have a battle on their hands if they want to be playing in the Champions League next season. United exited this year’s competition with a whimper as they lost 4-0 on aggregate to Barcelona in midweek and some dropped points in the league of late has left them trailing both Arsenal and Chelsea in the battle for fourth spot. Recent defeats away to Wolves and Arsenal in the league have been detrimental but possibly not surprising as United’s performances have not always been in line with their results under Solskjaer. The Norwegian has been given the job on a permanent basis now, of course, and will be building for the future but the last week has been the most trying in the job thus far and he has already started to call out some of the same personalities that former manager Jose Mourinho had issues with. The squad now need to refocus and attempt to get back to winning ways, starting with a difficult trip to Goodison Park.

Everton v Manchester United Betting Advice

Everton and striving for seventh which is seen as best of the rest at the moment and would represent some sort of success considering their struggles in the early part of the campaign. For United, it’s all about the top four and with them playing first this weekend they do have a chance to put pressure on the London clubs and climb up to fourth which would go some way to ending a difficult week on some sort of high.

Everton’s home record has been decent without being overly impressive but those recent wins against Arsenal and Chelsea will definitely have given them a boost that they can get another result against United on Sunday. United’s form on their travels has been very good all season but they have lost their last two on the road and will have to be much better tomorrow if they are to get three points. It’s made even more difficult them coming off the back of a hard European away fixture and the mood in the camp will inevitably low. Six of Everton’s last seven home games have contained two or fewer goals whilst four of United’s last six have also went the same way – under 2.5 goals looks the most likely outcome on Sunday.
