Carlo Ancelotti experienced his second defeat as Everton boss when losing in the Merseyside derby last weekend. Both he and the supporters will be looking for an immediate reaction as they welcome a Brighton team very much in need of points themselves.

Everton Preview – Will Everton get back to winning ways following consecutive defeats in league and cup?

Just as Everton supporters were getting excited following the appointment of Carlo Ancelotti, the last week has brought them back down to earth. The Italian’s reign started with wins over Burnley and Newcastle. With the start to 2020 beginning with visits to Manchester City in the league and Liverpool in the FA Cup, it was always bound to be an early examination for the new coach. Unfortunately for the Toffees, it looks to be the same old story. Big name players continuing to under perform and disappoint.

Indeed, the defeat to what was essentially a third-choice Liverpool team and the manner of the performance is the latest indication of just how big a job Ancelotti has on his hands.

Whilst it would be unlikely for Everton to be relegated, the facts as they are only five points above the drop zone and one ahead of their next opponents. It’s why they need to get back to winning ways otherwise a bad season could turn disastrous.

Their form at home has been relatively strong despite their struggles. The 1-0 win over Burnley on Boxing Day was their fifth of the campaign at Goodison.

Brighton Preview – Can Brighton get a result that would be a big help in their battle to avoid the drop?

The appointment of Graham Potter in the summer was one that looked bold but calculated from the Brighton owner who wanted to go in a different direction from the pragmatism of Chris Houghton. Potter has completely transformed the style of play and it’s paying off in the main. Brighton are now a much more dynamic and balanced team and a threat to all opponents, something they were not under the previous manager.

They still remain a team who are likely to be involved in the battle to stay up, though. Taking four points in their last two matches against Bournemouth and Chelsea have given them a lift. An early exit in the FA Cup may also not be a bad thing.

With just four points between them and the bottom three, Brighton have to be targeting points from these sort of game. Despite their improvement under Potter, this is as strong and competitive Premier League as there’s been for a long time. This is another in a line of tough away fixtures that has seen them face Arsenal, Manchester United, Liverpool and Tottenham.

Brighton have show their capability in all of those matches and perhaps feel unfortunate they’ve not taken more points. They have scored in their last six away games, however, and will feel they can cause Everton problems on Saturday.

Everton vs Brighton Betting Advice

Ancelotti has had an early reality check in his Everton reign and he will be demanding a response from his players after their meek surrender last weekend. Brighton are very consistent in terms of performances and have at times just lacked a bit of quality. They still pose a threat though and it’s one Everton will have to be wary of.

Key Facts – Everton vs Brighton Betting Tip

  • Ancelotti won his first two games in charge but has since lost to Manchester City and Liverpool
  • Brighton have netted in each of their last six Premier League away games
