Everton – Toffees back to their best after three straight wins?

Bidding to reach only their second League Cup semi-final in thirteen seasons, Everton are into a second successive quarter-final after negotiating three prior rounds. That being one round more than upcoming opponents Man Utd, whose participation in Europe earned them a pass straight in to the second round, at which stage Everton eased past League Two outfit Salford City with a 3-0 win at Goodison Park.

Carlo Ancelotti’s team would then account for Fleetwood in the Third Round, scoring five away to the League One side in a thoroughly entertaining 5-2 victory, before coming up against sterner opposition in the shape of West Ham in the next round. A Dominic Calvert-Lewin hat-trick inspiring the Toffees to an emphatic 4-1 scoreline on Merseyside, where they have won six out of nine competitive matches this season.

Just two visiting sides, meanwhile, departed Goodison triumphant in 2020/21. One of those being Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men. Yet Everton seem well placed to avenge the 3-1 scoreline from November. Last Saturday’s 2-1 victory here against Arsenal made it three wins in as many games – more than the previous seven games combined (1) – having also beaten Chelsea 1-0 at home earlier in the month.

Manchester United – Red Devils too hot in front of goal?

A fourth appearance in the last eight of this competition in five seasons for Manchester United, who were eliminated at the semi-final stage in 2019/20 after losing 3-2 on aggregate to Man City despite a hard-fought victory in the second leg at the Etihad Stadium. With both sides still involved, a repeat of that tie could yet materialise provided both overcome tricky looking quarter-finals.

Unfortunately for Solskjaer and United, the Reds appear to have the tougher route through to the last four. By the same token, it is an encounter they will firmly believe they can prevail in having done so only last month. A brace from Bruno Fernandes inspiring the Red Devils to a 3-1 victory at Goodison Park in a match they initially fell behind in to a Bernard goal after only nineteen minutes.

United will also be brimming with confidence following Sunday’s stunning performance at Old Trafford, thumping Leeds 6-2 in an end-to-end contest. The hosts utterly ruthless with their opportunities. While it was once again Fernandes to the fore, the Portuguese taking his tally for the season to 13 in all competitions. That a second straight win, scoring nine in the process, having won once in four matches previously.

Everton Vs Manchester United Betting Advice

The timing of this tie is far from ideal as both sides are expected back in Premier League action 72 hours later. So it would be safe to presume at least some alterations are in order to the sides that featured over the weekend, when Everton fought off Arsenal here at Goodison to win 2-1 and Man Utd put six past Leeds at Old Trafford, but perhaps not quite to the drastic extent some are envisaging.

Everton Vs Manchester United – Key Facts:

  • A run of three consecutive wins, two at home, coming into this tie for Everton is two more than they managed across their previous seven games (W1 D2 L4).
  • An average of 6.5 goals were scored across Man Utd‘s past two matches, while just one of their last eight matches featured fewer than four goals.
  • Both teams scored in four of the previous five meetings between these clubs. It was Man Utd, though, who prevailed earlier in the season, winning 3-1 at Goodison Park.

So far Everton have accumulated 12 goals through three rounds, with Richarlison and Calvert-Lewin combining for three apiece. Meanwhile Manchester United, who have netted two or more in seven of their previous eight matches, progressed through both of their ties with Luton and Brighton by winning 3-0 on the road. Both Teams to Score, Over 2.5 Goals and Richarlison To Score appeals at around 7/2 with Betfair’s Same Game Multi.
