Everton Preview – Will new look Toffees follow up last weekend’s good win by taking three points here?

As opening weekend’s go Everton and their coach Carlo Ancelotti will be very happy. In what could have been a very difficult proposition playing away to Tottenham and Jose Mourinho, Everton controlled the game in large parts and deservedly took all three points to start the season with a win. They were also able to keep a clean sheet and all their new signings were very impressive.

James Rodriguez will take a lot of the plaudits but both Allan and Abdoulaye Doucoure were excellent alongside him. They appear to have added real quality to what has been a problem area in recent years.

Our betting prediction:
James Rodriguez to score in 90 minutes

The challenge for Everton is being able to back that win up and find the consistency which has been missing for so long. This is exactly the type of game which has been troublesome and they will be hoping to avoid any slip-ups and move on to six points.
Ancelotti will also have been pleased to get some of his other squad some minutes in the EFL Cup match at home to Salford in midweek. Another win, more minutes into the legs and three goals to increase confidence.

West Brom Preview – Can Baggies get first points of the season after their disappointing return to the Premier League?

They may have stuttered over the line to automatic promotion but West Brom sealed their return to the Premier League last season, after two years away. The appointment of Slaven Bilic and strengthening of the squad was significant last season. If anybody was under any illusions of the challenges that lies ahead this season, however, they were put right last week.

Leicester were better in every area last week and there was a noticeable difference in terms of quality – both in defence and attack. Whether West Brom have the resources to bring in the required quality or go as they are will be shown in the next three weeks before the transfer window closes.

Bilic has moved to improve his team’s defence since that loss by bringing in former Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic. His experience will be valuable but whether a 36 year old is going to be a significant enough addition to bring the necessary improvement is questionable.

Going forward, the lack of a proven striker who will get 12-15 goals is apparent. Hal Robson-Kanu and Callum Robinson are not known as prolific scorers but they are useful strikers away from home with their pace and ability to press.

Everton vs West Brom Betting Advice

It was certainly contrasting fortunes for these two teams last week but still very early days in Everton and West Brom’s seasons. Optimism will be high amongst the home supporters that this is a season they can challenge for top six if not better. Whereas Bilic and his players are looking to get their first points in what is ultimately going to be a battle to stay in the league.

The last time the teams met at Goodison the game ended in a 1-1 draw. A J.Rodriguez was on the score sheet that day but it was former Baggie, Jay, on the occasion.

Key Facts – Everton vs West Brom Betting Tip

  • This is Carlo Ancelotti’s first full season in charge and he would have been delighted with his team’s efforts last week
  • West Brom’s return to the top-flight after two years away ended in a comprehensive defeat at home to Leicester
  • Both sides enjoyed comfortable home wins in the EFL Cup to progress to then next round of that competition

It may have been one game but West Brom have a lot to do on the evidence of last week’s performance. Everton will be full of confidence following their start and this looks an ideal opportunity to follow up with another win. Back the home team to be winning at half time and full time.
