Exeter lost their last league game, a big clash against Saracens, but they won’t have cared about that, because they have already locked in top spot.

The Chiefs smartly instead held back some players for their successful burst of European action and they have made it through to the Heineken Cup Final for the first time.

It will be interesting to see how they handle this one against London Irish in terms of the personnel that they put out.

Exeter Chiefs Preview – Chiefs cruising to the end of the season

Exeter produced a tremendous seven-match winning streak in the Premiership before their reverse against Saracens in the last round of action.

The Chiefs were not at full strength for that one. But since then they have played their way through to the Final of the European Champions Cup and in impressive style as well.

Exeter have suffered just the two losses at Sandy Park in the Premiership this season and those losses were both in the first half of the season.

They came against the Bristol Bears and Sale Sharks.

They have a nine-point lead at the top of the table with a game in hand over the rest of the top four teams, so they may not be at full strength for this either.

Not with a big European final on the horizon, but still, Exeter are 4/11 odds-on favourites  to walk away with the match win* (odds taken 20:33 GMT, Tuesday 29th September).

The Chiefs were convincing winners at London Irish earlier this season, producing a 45-28 away win.

Our betting prediction:
Exeter 1-12 winning margin

Exeter have won the last five meetings between the two clubs and in each of their last five home games against the Irish as well.

It has been just one loss in their last twelve games against London Irish actually for Exeter and that exception was by a two point margin in January 2015.

The Chiefs have dropped just the one home game against the Exiles at Sandy Park, which was back in 2010.

London Irish Preview – Exiles to extend losing streak

It has been a nine-match losing streak in the Premiership for the Exiles now which is their second losing streak ever in the competition.

Their worst ever record was produced in the 2017/18 season when they lost fourteen on the bounce.

Away from home during this campaign, they have collected three wins, happening at Wasps, Northampton and Harlequins.

It is a poor W5 D1 L14 record that London Irish have produced in the Premiership this season, leaving them as the team which has produced the fewest amount of wins.

Aside from Saracens, London Irish have produced the highest number of tries amongst those in the current bottom four, so they have that going for them.

In the last away game that they had, they went down 36-23 at Gloucester and that was their fourth straight road loss.

Even if they are facing an understrength Exeter on Wednesday night it is hard to see London Irish doing a great deal of damage in this game.

In the handicap market an Irish +7 option is at 10/11* (odds taken 20:33 GMT, Tuesday 29th September).

Looking back at the recent head to head the closest that they have been to Exeter in their five-match losing streak against them, was a seven point margin at home in 2016.

Each of the other four were by a margin of at least 17 points, but again, they are facing an Exeter side who are not playing for anything in this fixture.

Exeter Chiefs vs London Irish Betting Advice

London Irish may be able to stay fairly close to the Chiefs, because of total disinterest from the home side at Sandy Park.

But still the win for Exeter would have to be supported given that the Exiles are on such a long losing streak of form in the top flight.

They have also struggled badly in the recent head to heads between the two clubs.

Key Facts – Exeter Chiefs vs London Irish Betting Tip

  • Exeter Chiefs have won their last five against the Exiles
  • Exeter Chiefs had a seven match winning streak snapped in the last round
  • London Irish are on a nine match league losing streak

With all of that in mind the Exeter -7 handicap is a reasonable option at 10/11 for the contest* (odds taken 20:33 GMT, Tuesday 29th September).

But we also want to look at something for a little more value and that will be a Chiefs 1-12 winning margin option for a quote of 2/1* (odds taken 20:33 GMT, Tuesday 29th September).
