Exeter City Preview – Can the Grecians return to winning ways in League Two?

Matt Taylor’s Exeter City have a fine season so far. The Grecians are in third spot in the League Two table, just two points adrift of leaders Swindon Town. Exeter have won 18, drawn ten and lost just seven times.

However, after three league wins on the spin, Taylor’s boys have lost two and drawn one of their past three in all competitions. After losing 2-0 at Northampton Town in league action, City were held to a 1-1 draw by Crawley Town at St James Park last time out in League Two.

Our betting prediction:
Both teams to score
4/6

Exeter have been outstanding at home this season, losing just once at St James Park in league action. Only Crewe, Swindon, Bradford and Cheltenham Town have picked up more home points in England’s fourth tier. Can the Grecians secure a crucial three points on home soil in midweek?

Crewe Alexandra Preview – Will the Alex leave Devon with a positive result?

Crewe Alexandra have the best home record in the league, winning 12 of 18. On the road, though, David Artell’s troops have lost five times, taking just one point from the last six on offer on their travels.

Crewe, who are a point behind leaders Swindon, are gunning for automatic promotion to EFL League One. So far, the Railwaymen have won 19 times, scoring 63 goals along the way. If results go their way in midweek, the Alex could lead the division ahead of Saturday’s home match with bottom club Stevenage.

Crewe will be hoping to strike back after a 1-1 draw at Morecambe last time out. Victory on Tuesday would be a massive one, opening up a four-point gap on Exeter in the process. To be fair, even a draw would be a good result for Artell and his men.

Exeter City vs Crewe Alexandra Betting Advice

These two sides played out a tense draw in the reverse matchup at Gresty Road back in October. A second-minute Dean Moxey effort gave City an early lead, but Chuma Anene levelled things up with 14 minutes to go.

Key Facts – Exeter City vs Crewe Alexandra Betting Tip

  • Exeter have only lost one home league game this season
  • The Grecians are unbeaten in six against Crewe, winning five and drawing one
  • Crewe have won just one of their last seven League Two away games

Exeter have a superb recent record in this fixture. The Grecians have had Crewe’s number of late, winning five and drawing one of the last six meetings. Alexandra have not beaten City since September 2016.

With this taking place at fortress St James Park, Exeter will fancy their chances. It could be close, though, so I’m backing the home side to win by one, which you can get at the tasty price of 3/1.
