Onto Group F and Luxembourg side F91 Dudelange play host to Italian giants AC Milan as the betting tips continue in the Europa League with the hosts making footballing history when they take to the field on Thursday night.
Dudelange became the first ever side from Luxembourg to reach the group stages of the Europa League when they beat Romanian club CFR Cluj with a 5-2 aggregate win in the play-offs, which is a remarkable achievement for manager Dino Toppmoller and his squad.
The hosts’ epic European adventure began with a 3-2 aggregate win over Kosovo club Drita which was followed by a narrow 4-3 aggregate win over Polish side Legia Warsaw. However, just when you thought Dudelange’s luck would run out against the reigning Romanian champions, CFR Cluj, the home side came up trumps again to make it to the group phase.
Dudelange will no doubt be brimming with confidence but they now go up a couple of levels when facing AC Milan this evening.
AC Milan have made a slow start to their new Serie A campaign as they opened up with a 3-2 loss away at Napoli but have made steady progress since that opening season defeat with an impressive 2-1 home win over AS Roma and a point away at Cagliari in a 1-1 draw.
Last season, AC Milan comfortably ended up on top of Group D with a three point margin ahead of runners-up AEK Athens which saw them progress to the knockout rounds of the competition. The visitors went on to beat Bulgarian outfit Ludogorets with a 4-0 aggregate victory, but then fell foul to eventual semi-finalists, Arsenal, in the round of last 16.
Nevertheless, AC Milan possess an extensively experienced pedigree on the European stage, and they’re a hard team to shit on their travels as they’ve suffered just two defeats in their last 11 away matches at this level.
